Actually, there were lots more people than just those listed here.
Interesting side note: although we all went to Bob & Edith’s afterward, I believe I was the only one who actually ordered pancakes. We had 20 total volunteers.
I usually get the chocolate chip pancakes but I’m trying to switch things up more these days.

ParticipantHere’s the new view coming off the 14th Street Bridge to the MVT. Big thanks to Steve O, Josephine and Ken for helping to clear a ton of invasive honeysuckle.
I was also able to trim the face smacker level branches on the ramp. We also got four bags of trash picked up.
We will likely come back to this spot in July to finish a few things we didn’t have time for today and remove any regrowth. Check https://MountVernonTrail.org/events for all upcoming volunteer opportunities.

ParticipantUpdate:
Yesterday’s Friends of Mount Vernon Trail event got rained out and was rescheduled for Memorial Day morning. We will be removing the vegetation at the ramp to the 14th St Bridge which makes it impossible to see if someone is around the corner when entering or exiting the bridge. The event is from 9-11. Work up a hunger and then join me at Bob and Edith’s on 23rd St in Crystal City for some pancakes afterwards.

The county plans to renovate the pond (again) and if the beavers aren’t gone by then, they have to be killed – state law doesn’t allow relocation. So this is a good thing for your spirit animal. They plan to make the pond deeper so that should be good for future beavers.
Say hi when you ride by and see me chained to the beaver lodge in protest.

I think that is Pete. Either way all of my future rides will advertise a chance to see Secretary Pete.

Soooo did we see Sec Pete or was I wrong?
I haven’t heard from Chris yet if he checked the video footage to confirm if we had an authentic Secretary Pete sighting.

I’m doing a city ride in the day with some other friends, but maybe I’ll stop by Philz before you leave to hang a little.
Good to see you and Jo this morning.

Weekly pre-registrations? Matrimony is an easier commitment than weekly happy hour anticipated arrival time pre-registrations every Friday. I’m glad they are resurrecting this after the year we’ve all had, but all I have to say is OOF!
Just have to register that you’re going and not anticipated arrival time. I’ll be surprised if there’s a cap after mid-June.

There’s several folks that are going to just meet up at Vigilante. If it’s easier for you to to do so that’s cool. The important part is the coffee and talking part. You’re also welcome/encouraged to bring the baby.

This morning on Eads (southbound). It seems scooter users can be as selfish as, well, everybody else.
A bit of Lumberjacking might have occurred.
Looks like you and I didn’t make the cut for the rapture like those scooter riders.

ParticipantRode past last week and it looked like the County had poked a hole in the dam and put in a plastic culvert. I have mixed feelings. Beavers are my spirit animal but this lodge exacerbated some major seepage issues from this pond on to Four Mile Run Trail. I used to live directly across Four Mile Run from this pond and the seepage was causing lots of icing in the winter.

I have not played before, but once in the past I looked at the time/reward ratio, and it seemed pretty high. Converted to $/hr it came out to something under $5 if I recall. So it seemed like not worth the time. (With the exception of serendipitous, point-earning rides.)
Maybe that’s changed or I did the calculation wrong. In general, how much time does it take to earn, say, 50 points?
Bike Angel key fob is priceless so the payoff is priceless dollars per hour.
The return is low. What I found from the first incarnation was that when I was choosing stations to pick up and drop off that I would choose options that would score points if it wasn’t inconvenient. This had a side benefit of taking me to stations that I otherwise wouldn’t be aware of. The program is much easier to do in DC where there’s a density of stations.

That’s correct. The BAC lobbied for a some time to put this intersection on “full recall,” which means that the walk signal comes on every cycle without the need to push any buttons.
Thank you! Many of the dangers I experience are related to signal decisions. My death is likely to occur at the intersection of Route 1 and Slaters Lane which has three permissive car turn options while the crosswalk is lit.

ParticipantChecked it out Sunday morning. This is a big improvement. I used to ride this daily when I lived down the street. This area can have lots of people moving at different speeds bunched up together. The placement of the pole on the trail edge didn’t feel problematic.
