ParticipantHaha! Luckily I have blonde, maybe even clear, leg hair. So I could probably get away with it. Then I would only have to fall on each side and I could really see the difference.

Thought I would add these to an already posted thread of mine. Most of these were taken during the heat wave (notice the red face from breathing too hard).

7 speed is going to make it difficult. Most Shimano based wheels are 8/9/10 with a few being 10 only.
That’s what I was afraid of. If thats the case then I might just ride her “as is” until…. the wheels fall off.

ParticipantOoh! Cool post. I’ve wondered about average speed and what others are clocking in at. My average is about 16.8. Give or take 1MPH based on hydration, motivation and weather.

ParticipantIf you can get your hands on P90X’s stretch X disc, it is Outstanding!! There’s a bit of yoga mixed into it and it’s a great way to relax, cool down and loosen back up after a good ride or workout. I’ve used it a bit and noticed an increase in flexibility, recovery and strength. Plus it’s kind of fun. I’ve heard from a friend, who is an avid runner, that you dont want to stretch before a workout. Beginning your ride slow with a warm up is the best way to loosen up your muscles and get them ready for a workout.

ParticipantDepending on the names of what you buy I would guess a few hundred with parts and labor. My LBS charged 135 for a complete bike build (bought an online bike). Hope that helps. I frequent pricepoint.com for deals on parts and accessories.

ParticipantVoeckler almost had me out of my seat literally cheering for him as I was sitting in my living room by myself. Yellow certainly does something to a rider. There have been a number of riders this tour that can really inspire and Tommy V is one of them. Schleck is a beast and I am excited to see him scale the mountains. He will most likely take the jersey after today if he has a repeat performance.

There was a NVRPA truck with people taking surveys last week at W&OD and Belmont Ridge Road, just east of Luck Stone Quarry – the intersection with the double stop sign and the charlie brown shirt stripes along the intersecting road. An aside: ah, Virginia, way to make an industrial mineral extraction operation into a scenic overlook!
I passed that this morning, haha. It gave me a cheesy grin for a second. There was a small group who stopped to look.

Speeding and tailgating is certainly boneheaded. But so is coming to a sudden stop on a 2 lane highway for people WAITING to cross. That is not the law.
Too bad I cant “thumbs up” this.

I couldn’t agree anymore. Where did you take the WOD?
I started in Arlington. I think I parked on Four Mile Run Rd, 50yrds short of what I believe to be the start and turned around in Herndon at the rest stop. There and back came out to just over 43 miles. Luckily I started early enough to get off the trail by 10:30am, it was getting hot (this was Monday). I wanted to go further but I figured the distance I covered my first time on the trail was decent. Plus I only had a banana left and was saving that for the way back. I saw a few of the trouble spots I have read about here. At the time I didnt see huge problems but I also understand I was on the trail with probably the least activity of the day. Ill be back out tomorrow morning to hit the other half (or a good chunk of it) and eventually tie those two halfs together one of these days.

ParticipantI rode the WOD yesterday for the first time. YAY!. There are plenty of drivers who are very courteous to all people on the trail and I am pleased by that, but that kind of irritates me as well. Ill explain. Having had my time in the service, I like to follow the rules if there are rules set. I may roll a stop sign if I can obviously see there is nothing around me, but other than that I come to a complete stop. At least really really close to one. So when I come to a stop sign, unclip and stop just to find a car stopping for me at a place he/she doesn’t have a stop sign, I get irritated when it happens over and over. It creates confusion. Since it happens so frequently, I almost expect cars to stop now. I even came to a few stop signs stopping and waving cars on (like I thought I should in the first place) to see what would happen. Even if they already stopped I would wave them on, and that seems to irritate drivers even more haha! Madness. Sorry you had to put a 1/2 pound of pressure on your break to stop your hybrid while the entire day I’m gaining momentum and wasting energy knowing I have to stop just to be waved on. Thank you for being so kind and patient to allow me to pass through, but I would much rather see you slow a bit just to be cautious and then continue on. Then I can time it out so providing there aren’t any other cars, I can just roll through after you pass.
Just my two cents haha.

ParticipantI’m excited that this thread has popped up. I’ve been watching it a lot and wondering if I was the only one! I’m a fan of Garmin Cervelo and am really excited to see them doing well. My wife knows Tyler Ferrar and his family so we are extra excited for him and I was pretty pumped when I noticed he was closing on Cavendish on the last sprint of yesterday’s stage. I was also happy for Thor’s recent victory seeing as a big guy like him wasn’t picked to dominate as well as he did.
What did everyone think of the French Media car? When Hoogland flipped into the fence I think I probably had the same reaction as most. “HOLY S&!#*(*&”
I also think I’ll give Contador the prize for worst luck in this year’s Tour. He has had it rough the entire time. Maybe I’m skipping over a few deserving names but he just keeps falling down.
and sorry for the misspelling of most names. I think everyone will know who I’m talking about.
