ParticipantI passed a jogger last night while driving and the only reason I really saw him was because i think I’m just conditioned to constantly scan for cyclists or runners. Even motorcycles at still out. He was wearing a hi vis vest but he didn’t stand out much from the crowd.

ParticipantI agree but I don’t. Sure I would like it a little easier for the middle class but punishing capitalism is un-American. So is abusing the 1st amendment by using it as a scape goat while occupying private property, making threats towards police and taking craps in public. I’m mainly talking about Zuccati Park. Those 1% create jobs, buy boats, buy homes and its good for the economy. There are some that should be monitored after receiving a tax cut because that money “should” be used for more jobs but is sometimes not. I could be wrong, just my two cents

ParticipantThanks for the info as always. Since my commute will only be around 6 or 7 miles I think I might start looking for a single speed, or steel road frame. idk. Still in the decision process. That and what gear I should keep on.

ParticipantI’ll be living inside the beltway near Seminary road. Sorry I should have been more specific. Ive studied the google maps routes and seem pretty straight forward. I just hope it doesn’t direct me to a road of death.

ParticipantRevolution had some really nice city shoe covers. I forget the brand, they might have been Garneau, but they were high-vis yellow and looked ideal. They were non-stretchy, but had velcro straps to take up the slack. Edit: Not Garneau…
I believe those are the Gore shoe covers. There are a few different types but those sure are hi-viz. I’m with you on the swiftwicks. I was there the last time you stopped in but I didn’t realize it was you until it was too late.

ParticipantI heard that drivers tend to steer into strobe lights. I don’t have one but an urban 180 is a really nice rear light. It doesn’t strobe but pulses which is actually pretty different. Also goes to steady red light and a pace light. Which is no red light but a dim yellow light if your pulling a few wheel suckers at night.. Or some buddies. Eventually I may get one but they’re $100.

ParticipantWish I could have made it. Worked until 830. Pete I think you bought some wool socks from me (rev cycles, kid with red hair) Sorry I didn’t recognize you. If you couldn’t tell I was moving a little slow haha. Lack of nutrition during the work day will do that to you. As you left I started putting the pieces together but didn’t see much pink besides the wrist band !

ParticipantNow that it’s dark so early I rarely get to ride home before sunset. I usually start around 8:30pm. I have a Stella 200 and have never needed it on high yet. Light&motion has a good line up. I travel from Clarendon to Suitland right off good ole branch ave. I try not to think about being mugged. I think me being in that area at night is more confusing to everyone then anything else. Especially being on a bicycle with blinking lights.

ParticipantHmm, wonder what happened to make him want to do that?? I’ve only cashed in 2. Funny thing is I think one person actually did buy a cliff bar haha!

ParticipantDon’t really have to add much. Just cut it off. In the future maybe invest in a combo lock or something with a few keys to it. Hope everything worked out. Sorry for your troubles.

ParticipantI really wish they would consider more trails in SE and PGC. I understand why they don’t but it could really help out. I didn’t even know the National Harbor was connected by trail. My wife and I have considered riding in for dinner since we aren’t too far.

Haha yea that too. I get more then a few weird looks every time I leave or get home. Cycling isn’t exactly the popular thing around here. It beats fitting in with crack heads though.

ParticipantI agree with the pedestrian only cycle. There is a good 3 seconds of the pedestrian walk light before the green light but all that does is give pedestrians the jump on the intersection. Then traffic waits for the perfect gap to shoot through before looking if a cyclist is coming across.
