ParticipantCan’t wait for one of the best parts of BAFS. Haven’t ridden a single Hains Point lap since the Hains Point 100.

ParticipantI had a Winter Special, which was a little spiced but not overwhelming. And also an IPA #7, which is fine. And then the wife and I split an Oat Pale. I love The Public Option. It’s one of my favorite places in the city. It was busy today – almost too busy. But happy to see them successful.

ParticipantSo Right Proper has the Haxan, one of their flagship beers. It’s a coffee porter. It’s pretty good. At the moment they also have a couple of different variations, and i had the Death and Haxes, which is a Haxan with coconut and cacao. It was quite pleasant. I also had a Raised by Wolves, which I’ve had a million times but it’s still good.

ParticipantYeah, I don’t expect them to actually do it, but it would be cool.

It’s bananas that the Edge 820, which has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, needs 3rd party apps and services just to make it behave more like a modern device.
Garmin is a TERRIBLE software company. I’d love it if they’d open source their firmware so people could fix the software.

ParticipantThat was windy. Friday Coffee Club’s 6th birthday celebration plus a flat white at the freshly renovated and reopened Swings

ParticipantAnyone try riding in this wind yet?

ParticipantI think the most disappointing numbers here are the two spots on 14th near U – Wallach Place and T. When I first started bike commuting in 2012, 14th St was a s**tshow. Then they slowly started connecting the disconnected bike lanes, and pretty soon it was noticeably nicer to ride there. During rush hour, drivers actually expected cyclists to be there and were generally accommodating. By “accommodating” I mean “mostly coming close to obeying traffic laws”. But Trader Joe’s f’ed it all up. It’s pretty much white knuckles everywhere south of Florida now.
And 1st and L NE – there’s a [expletive deleted] 2 way protected cycletrack at that intersection. If there are still drivers hitting cyclists there, it’s clear that 1st needs to be permanently closed to cars.

ParticipantFor my next GPS I would really like decent mapping. I want turn by turn directions. Beyond that as long as it shows how fast I’m going and how far I’ve gone and syncs to Strava without me doing anything non-trivial, I’m happy.

ParticipantSee, it was hozn’s fault. Also see step 2.

ParticipantI’m interested in this. In part because I’ve never been on a team with any shot at all of winning, and in part because i like mucking around with numbers. I want every year’s FSLNHPP to be full of people on 3-4 different teams desperately cramming in last minute miles so we don’t know which team is going to win until the last ride is uploaded.
Anyway, I’m still digging out from ignoring work while on vacation, but hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll have some time to dedicate to this.

OK … my (just after) midnight sleaze ride today has yet to post to Freezing Saddles. I’m blaming both hozn and jrenaut.

This seems really short to me, but I guess pads are cheap, especially rim brake pads. I switched to metallic pads with my disc brakes. According to Strava I got 2400mi out of my last set.
Yes but don’t forget that the Xtracycle fully loaded (me + 2 kids + the bike + backpacks etc) is in the neighborhood of 400 pounds.

ParticipantWe’ve been getting a lot of support requests for this issue. It’s all because of the way hozn did the backend sync. Your ride loads to freezingsaddles.org in one of two ways.
1) It loads immediately when freezingsaddles.org receives a webhook from Strava
2) It loads at some point in the next 24 hours when freezingsaddles.org goes through and grabs all the rides that didn’t load immediately. This is all to reduce the number of times we have to ask Strava for data. They get mad if we ask too much and we risk getting cut off completely.
So, if you have a ride that didn’t load:
1) Make sure it’s on Strava
2) Wait 24 hours
3) If it STILL hasn’t loaded, contact me or hozn.Edit to add: I realize this sounds like I’m blaming hozn. I’m not. The work he did on the backend is fantastic. The real problem is that a ride is a fair bit of data, so pulling them from Strava is non-trivial. The way hozn did the sync means we ask much less of Strava’s webservers, and that makes them happy.
