ParticipantWho wants to volunteer to take my kids to soccer practice so I can go?

ParticipantI knew this day would come. I was just hoping it would come after we’d found a suitable replacement. I’m happy to continue in my role as support for the person running the site, but I don’t think I can step in and fill your shoes. First, you’re a better coder than me, and second I’m busy, too. Also I’m likely to arbitrarily change the scoring system halfway through if one team is running away with it like the last 3-4 years, so we should find someone else to be the hozn this year.
Anyway, your work is much appreciated. Like Judd, Freezing Saddles has had a great positive impact on my life, and the website is a big part of what makes the game work. Thank you for all that you’ve done.
Also, stop pretending that you haven’t been here forever – OF COURSE it’s time to start bickering about the rules.

Where have you broken spokes? Front or rear? If rear, drive or non-drive side? Spoke break at the bend or at the nipple?
Both rear, one definitely drive side, the other I think was drive side but don’t remember. Both at the nipple. When I got the first one fixed the shop said I was on borrowed time with the wheels.

ParticipantReviving this thread because I’ve already broken two spokes on the wheels from TwoWheels.
Is there a good resource for teaching me about all the different parameters you can change on a wheel? For example, I know that more spokes generally means a stronger wheel. Does the rim width vary? If so, what does a relatively smaller width do compared to a larger one? What else don’t I know about wheels?

ParticipantI don’t want to be responsible for your bike getting stolen, but i think 400 Indiana is 1000 times safer to lock at than near the Convention Center.

You know…the Wahoo Elemnt does turn-by-turn directions (through the phone app)…
So LhasaCM, who is a glorious human being, dropped off his Wahoo Elemnt that he’s not using. In two minutes of pairing it with my phone, I want to find whoever writes Garmin’s software and throttle them. I haven’t used it on a ride yet, but if pairing my phone is any indication, I’m probably a convert. I’ll check back in Friday after we toodle around Mackinaw Island in preparation for our (relatively) big Saturday and Sunday rides.

It’s not helpful short term, but after I tweeted in sadness about my 2 year old vivoactive watch malfunctioning, Garmin replaced it for free with a refurbished one, even though it was well outside of the warranty period.
Oh, and I’m in Michigan too right now
I will try tweeting at them. And if you go anywhere near any breweries in the northern part of the lower peninsula we might run into you…

I have a 510 in my drawer I’ll sell you for $40 … But I will warn you that Steve O had an issue with it when he borrowed it (last year?). I did a full factory reset and used it for a few rides without issue, but it is only my backup device so it does not get regular use.
If I’m getting another GPS, I’m going to shoot for turn-by-turn. And I’m not getting out your way tonight. But thanks for the offer.

If you’ve had for under a year, you may be able to return it to the store if you bought it locally.
Purchased April 2015 from Amazon, unfortunately.

ParticipantDoesn’t seem to have much to do with longer rides. I do a lot of short 1-3 mile things for work/errands/etc and it often is a problem then. The time it just recently bonked was 12 miles, which is longer than my average but not what I’d call long.
I can use my phone but we’re going to be traveling so I want to make sure i have phone battery for emergencies/maps/etc.

ParticipantYour responsibility as a slower cyclist is simply to be aware. Faster people should pass, with warning, on the left. A little wave or similar to acknowledge that you heard them call the pass is appreciated but not required.

ParticipantAccording to Arlington Public Safety, MVT is no longer flooded. Use caution anyway
