ParticipantI thought the free pizza was a special deal just for me.

ParticipantYou could try a water bottle holster like this one. However, you’d be riding the fine line between “awesome” and “seriously?”. You might have the presence to pull off the look – I probably don’t.

ParticipantI’ve only had my Chrome bag since June, but have used it almost every day. If you put it back on the shelf next to the new ones, I don’t think anyone would notice.

ParticipantI have to drive out 66W tonight around 6pm, so I should be getting a really nice reminder how lucky I am that I can bike to work.

ParticipantOh, I don’t expect CaBi to turn a profit. If you could attach a dollar value to the benefits to the community from having CaBi around, it would already be profitable. My point is that I think they lose money on annual subscribers, but make money on the daily users. So encouraging more tourists to come pay for a day or a week is more profitable than signing up annual users. And the more money it makes, the less clowny politicians are able to try to make a point by taking funding.
I think CaBi is a fantastic success. This time last year I had ridden a bike less than a dozen times since high school. Then I started commuting on CaBi, and now my bike is my first option whenever I leave the house to go more than 5 blocks. That wouldn’t have happened without CaBi.

ParticipantNot only will this be useful for people wanting to get down to the Mall, but it should also serve the high-profit tourists more than the subsidized annual members. It would be awesome for CaBi to actually make a profit one of these days . . .

ParticipantSometimes when the weather is bad I think about taking Metro to work, but then I remember that bad weather makes Metro riders (and drivers) grumpy, and that makes me grumpy. I’d much rather ride in the crummy weather and get to work in a good mood.

ParticipantWe already have that. It’s called “tourists in giant rain coats who don’t respond at ALL to ‘ON YOUR LEFT!'”.

ParticipantGreat ride home just now. Although pedestrians are especially clueless when it’s wet.

ParticipantWhat do you need a shower for? With this week’s forecast, you will have just taken one when you arrive at work. You just need a towel and some dry clothes.

I just tried to read some of the comments on that article, and now my head hurts.
Remember, it is a scientifically proven fact that a person’s IQ is reduced by 25-40% while they are in the process of leaving a comment on a blog post. Those people aren’t REALLY that dumb. Mostly.

The comment about “once you enter the intersection you become a vehicle” is not exactly right either. It isn’t legal for “vehicles” to drive in the cross walk across the street.
It’s like the law is perpetuating the common driver complaint that bikes are cars when they want to be and pedestrians when they want to be. The law randomly chooses when to consider a bike a car and when to consider it, I don’t know, a target?

No kidding.
I’ve been thinking about putting a big smiley face or something on the back of my bag.

ParticipantMy supervisor, and the guy who encouraged me to bike to work, is one of the main promoters for DCCX, so I can pass questions along if you have them.

ParticipantGood point over at TheWashCycle – a huge number of cars in DC are actually commuters from Maryland and Virginia. My only accident in the city (Hit on foot while in a crosswalk by an F-250 Super Duty) was a Maryland driver not used to people in crosswalks.
So if they measure by dividing accidents by registered drivers, it’ll way overestimate the accidents. The “population” of DC is much higher during the day when the commuters are all in at work.
