ParticipantSeriously, reading this forum is worse than clicking on all the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought” links on Amazon. I imagine all other posters here living in 5,000 sq foot warehouses filled to the brim with bikes, clothing, accessories, and all the other necessary things for comfortable cycling.

Weekend brunch would work for me too, next time.
Meridian Pint in Columbia Heights (the DC Columbia Heights, not the Arlington one) has fantastic brunch and fantastic beer. And it’s 7 blocks from my house.

ParticipantI sure wish my fenders were installed on my bike this morning instead of on their way to the bike shop from the distributor.
jrenaut
ParticipantUnfortunately, my fenders didn’t fit, so the bike shop is ordering another set. They should be here Thursday, but probably not in time to show them off at Happy Hour.
jrenaut
ParticipantIn the meantime, bike faster!

ParticipantA lot of it is familiarity with light timing and traffic patterns – on the routes I take regularly, I’m much more comfortable getting around in traffic. Having never biked M, and barely driven it, I’m not at all comfortable with the traffic there. Plus Georgetown drivers are terrible. I had some clown honk at me once as he tried to make a left through the crosswalk I was walking through with the light.

ParticipantAhh, P to 34th looks like a winner. Thanks.

ParticipantGenerally I’m fine in traffic, but Georgetown makes me a bit nervous. I don’t get down there much at all, and I’ve never done it on a bike. So I’d be ideally in the right of the two turn lanes, and then I can hop up onto the sidewalk to go over the bridge?

ParticipantGetting there from DC – I’ll be coming from Columbia Heights Metro, more or less. Google tells me I can come down the Rock Creek Trail, turn right on a path just south of M Street, then it’s not clear from the Street View how the heck I get on the Key Bridge so I can get hit by a car on Lynn Street. Can anyone clarify the route?

Looks like Amazon has the Elite Barrier WxB that Dirt linked to in Black (M, XXL only) for $132

I just dropped my bike off to get the fenders put on. The job was just a little bit beyond me. Nothing seemed to quite fit right, so I’m leaving it to the professionals.
And I’m thinking about buying myself a rain jacket as a One Year Bike Commuting Anniversary Present (Next Tuesday will be a year).

ParticipantI gave up on installing the fenders myself. It may be that I’m missing a piece, or maybe I’m just destined to pay bike shops to do things for me. I got the rear fender most of the way on, but couldn’t get the last 1/3 or so. The Bike Rack charges very little to install fenders, so I’m going to take it in this week.

ParticipantAs wet as I was, at least I wasn’t my coworker, stuck on the red line, backed up due to a fire at Union Station, and then a girl in his packed car passed out.
I’ll take wet any day.

ParticipantDirt, is this the Pearl Izumi you’re talking about? If it is, sounds like a great bargain if it compares to the other two, at Amazon for less than $70.
jrenaut
ParticipantAnd, almost forgot – thanks, all, for the advice.
jrenaut
ParticipantAlso, remember that my commute only breaks the 30 minute mark when I get a chance to go the long way, something I’m not going to be terribly inclined to do if the weather is both wet enough and cold enough for rain gear. It’s only just over 3 miles, all in the city.
