Me: riding in middle lane on M St going east in Georgetown. taking the lane. waiting with traffic in every light. not filtering. being a PAL. etc.
You (in a silver SUV): picking your ear for most of the time, except when you swerved into my lane without checking or warning, only to swerve back a few seconds later realizing there was no advantage. thanks for the brake test.
Me: yelling Hey! while next to your vehicle had no effect (you kept picking your ear) so i rode with you til you were stopped in traffic (all of 5 seconds) and tapped on your window to ask you if you saw me and let you know you almost hit me.
You: shrugging, looking surprised, not willing to wind down your window to actually converse.
Me: %!#$ing hell. riding off. it’s just another day on the Streets of DC.

Yep, just another day. I yelled at a silver SUV this morning on L street – wonder if it was the same one. He was speeding and almost hit a woman who had to move into the lane to go around a parked car. Then he obnoxiously laid on his horn for a good 30 seconds. I caught up to him and informed him that he was speeding. He then proceeded to make an illegal left turn. I though I had caught the whole thing on my gopro but it wasn’t on #^%+*!!!

Yes, between Monroe and Monroe. I captured the street signs in the photo. It would be nice if the lane was extended all the way between falls church and Rosslyn. Perfect alternative to the custis, and much smoother.

I have been riding my ebike almost exclusively for the past two years. Yes, I’ve been called cheater, been yelled at and scolded for riding a “motor vehicle” on the trails, but I got over that :-).
I have not commuted by car or metro for about 6 months now, and really look forward to the commute. The money I’ve saved is amazing, even after the expense of the bike. I’m not tired when I get to work, don’t need a shower, and don’t need to change clothes. If I want a workout I simply don’t use the motor. I do this on the way home usually.
The down side is that if something goes wrong with any electrical part, you either need to know how to fix it yourself, pedal a really heavy bike, or do the walk of shame. I carry a tool kit and fix stuff myself. Only issue I have had are flat tires and once in a while a wire connector needs to be replaced, but that’s also part of the fun for me…
Now, for a commute from Herndon you will need to do some research to make sure the battery will make it with about 10% charge remaining, you can’t drain the battery completely. If your interested in building the bike yourself with a kit, let me know and I’ll pm you the vendor I went with.

I cross key bridge, M, then left on L. I do this every day and I think L is actually more dangerous even in the bike lane than M. Could be just the timing though, but I am constantly weaving in and out of traffic on L to go around the parked vehicles and avoiding left hooks, whereas on M I just take the lane and go straight.

I used to do one way commutes twice a week from Chantilly to Chinatown. It would take over 2 hours. 33 miles one way, too much for me more than once or twice per week.
You could park your car along the W&OD, there are plenty of places to do that or you could take your bike on metro early, then ride home.

Yeah, not sure i would go in front. He had a crazy look on his face, like a trapped animal. Now that I think about it, he was probably trying to cut through to park street. I think the only reason he stopped was because he saw me turn around and follow him and I had my work badge on my arm – maybe he thought I was a bike path cop!

Good god(!) on that video. Too bad you didn’t get the license plate (would the police follow up though?). And why was he driving so fast?!

The guy was either a good actor or he was really lost. It seemed like he was late for something and was frantically trying to take a shortcut. I told him that the trail ended up ahead so he had to turn around. I estimate he was doing about 40 mph. Craaaazy.

I’ve recruited one person at work, and I always try to point out to people that say I’m crazy for riding in the winter that its more crazy to be stuck in traffic and then have to pay $15 to park. Some people don’t realize that bikes park for free.

Ok I sent a tweet. So that counts as reporting it right? Do I get points for that?

I clicked that ddot link but its not obvious to me what I’m supposed to do to report this. I’m not going to call anyone because the last thing I need is to be put on hold and explain over and over why I’m calling. The picture should explain everything.
