ParticipantHains Point open Tuesday evening. Underpass at 4-mile run also clear and dry.

ParticipantThey should have gone another 30 yards on the east side of the Rt 28 overpass… they would have fixed 3 or 4 more bad cracks and connected up with another section of newish pavement. Now there’s a dumb stretch of bad old pavement between the good stuff for no particular reason.
Another job done to spec…

ParticipantAhh, that’s good. I’m riding out that way tonight after work. hate the detours, but love the fresh pavement
Now when are they going to do the Custis trail from the W&OD down to Rosslyn???!?
Got a stupid pinch flat last night riding on that mess….

ParticipantI don’t wanna get lost
, but if somebody leads the ride I’d love to try it.
Around Lake Barcroft is where I do my hill repeats. They aren’t long, but they’re plenty steep (Whispering Lane, Jay Miller Dr, Bent Branch, up Sleepy Hollow etc. I can do 100 ft. per mile over 20 miles just in that area alone. That does require repeating sections though.

ParticipantI don’t think there’s a comprehensive list anywhere. A couple of good places to start are the local bike clubs. Check Potomac Pedalers and the Oxon Hill BC:

http://www.ohbike.org/events/index.htmYou can do searchs on Active.com and other bike event registration sites.
Mostly I just keep links from previous years’ events, and check them the next year.
Here’s a couple that are upcoming. Some are metric centuries early in the season, and some involve a bit of driving:

ParticipantI’d much rather ride the Skyline Drive to Front Royal unless I was in a big hurry. There are some nice roads between Waynesboro, to Charlottesville, to Culpeper, to Warrenton etc., but you can’t beat Skyline Drive if you have the option.
From Front Royal to Purcelleville (where you catch the start of the W&OD trail) I would do:
522/Remount to Hume Rd
Hume to Crest Hill and in to Marshall
Rectortown Rd, turn on Atoka Rd.
X Rt 50, catch St. Louis Rd
St. Louis turns into Silcott Springs, which takes you right in to PurcellvilleA shorter, but busier route would be to take 340 to Berryville, and the Rt. 7 to Purcellville.
Here’s the BikeRouteToaster cue sheet for the first option

ParticipantGreat updates from the regulars. I’m mostly a fair weather rider. I’m going to try the W&OD from Gallows > Custis > MVT > 4Mile-Run > and back loop tonight.

ParticipantThere was a 2×4 sticking out and blocking about half of the very narrow temporary path over the Humpback Bridge on the MVT last night. I stopped and tried to move it but it was attached to a bunch of other junk that was too heavy for me. I hope nobody hit that mess in the dark….
In other words, just do the right thing (if you can.) I doubt you can shame the maintenance people into doing their job
