ParticipantIt was a fun ride if you get the chance. I would put in the category of the 50 States ride. Good sights, many neighborhoods, but not too serious. Very diverse crowd, Cervelos to Huffy’s.
Btw, easily done on a fixed gear. Only a few very doable hills. I sometimes forget how many hills we hit in Arlington on even the shortest commute.
Beside, getting some real pizza was worth the sweat.Jason B
ParticipantSigned up yesterday morning when there was only 4 spots left. Buddy tried later in the day and said it was closed.

ParticipantJust to be clear, if I bought the trick bike he used, I would be able to do all that stuff, correct?
That was way cool. Made me miss my old hood.Jason B
ParticipantBy no means am I an expert, but something that helped me increase my speed, endurance and overall enjoyment of riding is to break the ride up. I set small goals when I am riding. Whether it is a hill, a cranking flat, or even the distance between 2 or 3 telephone poles, I try to do that segment faster than yesterday. These little segments/goals are really the poor mans interval riding, which will enable you to achieve your overall goals faster than anything. You will quickly find that the “rest” time between your small goals will decrease and your overall speed will increase. Not to mention by constantly focusing on your overall time and speed will lead to a very boring, grueling ride that will never end. You need small victories throughout your ride if you’re going to enjoy it. Rarely do I ever look at my overall speed, gear or time. I focus on being at my optimal for that small moment whether it is a low easy gear for a well earned rest, or a beast gear until I reach that next telephone pole.

ParticipantThanks everyone for the imput. Just to follow up after reading all the reviews, I went with the Lezyne super drive with the portLand tail light. Not as high end as many of the suggestion but a definite step up from my typical Dick’s sporting good light I usually pick up. Besides I have been very impressed with both the Lezyne pump and their alloy levers. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind when looking for a helmet light to compliment as we creep into the night.
Thanks againJason B

Thanks for the post. They both were informative. It was good to remember that too many lumens is not necessarily a good thing, and positioning is equally important, for I too have been blinded by many lights.Jason B
ParticipantThanks for the great advice. I stumbled across this link while researching the ones you suggested:

Sorry to ask, but what is the consensus, helmet, bar or both?
I have only used cheap bar lights in the past and I am trying to get a tad bit more serious this year.August 28, 2012 at 1:29 am in reply to: So if someone made these shirts for DC area rides, which ones would they have? #949749Jason B

ParticipantCongratulation on completing the Mt. Weather Loop! A definite bear that doesn’t seem to end. That first hill aftEr Rt. 7 is death. It is not long, but if I went any slower, I would have fallen over.

If it malfunctions, does it decapitate you?
Yes, but if you kept your receipt you will be eligible for a refund.

ParticipantThanks fellas for the advice. Any ride that ends with FroYo is a good ride. Forgot that many groups consider Monday a rest day. Horrible to say but Fridays mine so i can do the big push on the weekends and I am usually doing something Friday night.
The Glen Echo looks good, but it is a tad off on the timing. I’ll try the Haynes point.
Thanks again -
