I have a thumbs up from Tom for us to basically take over Duffy’s on either Sunday February 26 or Sunday March 5. We can park bikes in the storage room and the back bar/dining area if we’re indoors. Or we can have the entire patio if we’re indoors. So I need to hear from Squadra Quattordici members for which date works best for us to have critical mass. I won’t finalize the ride until mid-week of that week depending on the weather forecast. Sorry, but not doing this ride in the rain. So one plan could be to go for February 26 and make March 5 our fallback if the weather turns to crap. Whatever date we end up with, I’ll put on BAFS calendar and infiltrators welcome.

I’d be up for Feb 26th.
    Thanks!

Just putting this out there as the voice of the boring, but why do anything? So you have a granny gear you never use. Just continue not to use it. Unless you break a brifter or a crank or FD, just leave it alone.

I have to agree with this. I don’t think there’s much to be gained, and it’s likely the only thing that’ll be lighter is your wallet.

    Greetings folks,
Anyone interested in riding the hills of Arlington this Saturday? I used to do a Saturday morning shop ride with Tri360 that winds through North Arlington, here’s an example:

    https://www.strava.com/activities/287755517

These rides ended after the Tri360 closed down. I’ve been told that Conte’s Falls Church has restarted this ride as of this past weekend, so I’m wondering if anyone is interested in doing this ride, and then ride out to Caboose afterwards to grab some brew & food? For those that prefer not to do hills, we could have a second group that take an alternate route and just reconvene at Caboose afterwards?

    Thoughts?

My “I don’t have the kids but the fixie is impractical for this ride” bike is a 2013 Bianchi Volpe. It came with a triple up front – 50/39/30.

I’d like to switch to a double. The only time I ever use the small ring is when I accidentally downshift, and then I use it only long enough to get back into the middle ring.

Can I just replace the crankset and the front brifter? Or is there more to it than that? Since Shimano sells 2X10 and 3X10 derailleurs, I assume i’d have to replace that, too. Would I have to do 50/39? And how do I get the crankset off?

I believe the crankset width is slightly different between a double and triple. If you can find a matching double, it should work. This, with a double FD and a matching shifter should be all you need. A compact double is 50/34, which should work well for you. Lastly, most current Shimano cranks can be removed with just a Allen wrench, but you will need a special tool to remove the bottom bracket, if necessary.

    Good luck!

Do you mean instant oatmeal or the powered stuff?

I’m wondering if I could have something by my bedside that I could quickly eat then nod off for 45 more minutes before getting up. Kinda dangerous though since it may screw up my sleeping schedule even more.

I can’t stand energy gels. Augh. Nasty. Maybe pure maple syrup? I’ve heard that is the “new cool thing” on the block.

I wish I could telework more. It would “buy” me some morning time.

Have you tried chocolate milk? Throw in a shot of espresso for that extra kick.

Kudos and big thanks to Chuck and all those came out for Sunday’s gathering. Covered a descent amount of “grounds” and KCals, the only thing that would’ve made this past Sunday more delightful is if Brady cried in defeat instead…

Just want to confirm Duffy’s on Saturday starting from Java Shack, it’ll be me(left) and my +1(right). Yet to decide which bike, but most likely my Fuji CX

    Look forward to seeing everyone!

Can I get a show of hands of who’s interested in riding to Duffy’s next Saturday (January 28)? I know our dear leader Kurt probably can’t. I think critical mass is probably 5 or 6 of us. I will probably ask my wife and one other friend if they want to join us. I will find out from Tom how many of us (with bikes) he can accommodate in the back room. I know it’s big enough for all 11 of us and a few more.

The plan probably looks something like this … Since we’re all starting from different locations (assuming everyone is riding from home), meet in Arlington. My suggestion would be Java Shack for a pre-ride espresso (for those doing the coffeecatting challenge). Departure at 1030 so anyone who wants to caffeinate get there early enough to be ready to ride at 1030. I put together a route on Strava from Java Shack to Duffy’s that’s ~17 miles. I can send you either a GPX or TXC file if you want to load on your Garmin or other GPS device (just let me know your email). Definitely an easy ride. Over Memorial Bridge and one lap around Hains Point. Then Maine Avenue to M Street to the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. Up to Benning Road. Benning to Florida to Vermont. City riding so not so fast. Social. Ride as fast as the slowest rider wants to ride so we keep the group together and no one gets lost. We can make up the route back to Arlington, but probably something like U Street to Florida to P and through G’town and over Key Bridge.

Just need to see what the weather does.

If we decide to do this, I’ll need to confirm who’s riding by next Thursday so I can let Tom know on Friday how many of us to expect.

    THANX!

Count me in, barring any last minute shenanigans! I *may* have another BAFS participant with me, but she’s on another team. We’ll just have to cover her eyes and ears if we discuss team secrets…

    Hi Jeanne,
I’ve been my own bike mechanic for at least 30 yrs now, so if you’re still having issues with your bike, I’d be more than happy to take a look.

    Cheers!

    Hi Folks,
Just want to chime in to say hello and look forward to some serious team bonding activities (TBA)! I’m not a bike commuter, so I usually clip-in after work and on weekends, Saturday/Sundays works well for me. I live about 1/2 mile from WOD mile marker 8, so if anyone ever headed this way and like someone to ride with, let me know!

Btw, I plan to be at the unofficial BASF HH at Cap City Shirlington tomorrow, hope to you all there!

    Forza Squadra Quattordici!
