ParticipantAny time. Buying from overseas is not for everyone, it can work for “want” but definitely not “need” kind of purchase. Surprised to see that it’s Chain Reactions as they do plenty of business here. As far as paying the fees, in the past I have been post delivery invoiced by express courier and/or had to pay when picking up the package at the post office. If we’re talking about less than $100USD, this really should not be an issue. Hope you can get this resolved quickly.

ParticipantCan’t speak for this vendor, but majority of overseas vendor make it abundantly clear that the purchaser is responsible for all custom and duty charges. As someone who buys regularly overseas, the factors that impact whether or not you get hit with these charges are: 1) declared value of the items 2) how items are declared 3) port of entry, and 4) shipper/courier.
I believe the current cutoff of any custom/duty is $800USD. Anything over this amount can be subject to these charges, small items such as tires, tubes, clothing, etc. should not be an issue. How items are declared can also affect how they might get flagged. There are trigger words used in declaration such as “commercial samples” that are not subject to these fees. Port of entry – NYC seems to be most relaxed about this, I’ve had expensive carbon wheels that came through without paying a single penny more. Lastly shipper – DO NOT USED EXPRESS COURIERS. Companies like FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. are far more likely to dock you with these fees as they get a cut for “processing”. Using UK equivalent of USPS, Royal Mail, is far safer bet. Once they come through to USPS, these are usually treated as express mail.January 11, 2019 at 8:28 pm in reply to: Team 19: The Year of Team 19’s Officially Licensed Thread™ #1093773ImaCynic

ParticipantHi Leslie,
I am so glad that you are okay and this wasn’t more serious than from I what witnessed. I was heading west to Falls Church from Chuxtr’s ride on Sunday with another when we came up onto the crash scene. Waiting at the light, I first noticed a crowd of people and several cyclists, a black truck/SUV in the middle of the road with no driver, a police SUV with flashing lights, and to my horror, a cyclist laying motionless on the road. There were no signs of paramedic at the scene, but I can hear the approaching sirens. It appears that someone had placed a jacket covering the cyclist (you), but I can see that you were wearing a dark colored helmet.Seeing that authorities are already present and paramedic appears to be on their way, I did not want to be a gawker and decided to continue. As I rode closer, I did not notice any obvious damage to the front nor left side of the vehicle involved. However, I did noticed what appeared to be a thread of red yarn near your head that looked odd. But as I processed what I saw, I soon realized it was actually a small stream of blood running down the road. Recognizing this and based on the fact that no one was administering first-aid, I was thinking the worst. I mentioned what I witnessed to several fellow cyclists in Strava, and even scanned local news outlets for updates but did not find any.
I believe right turning vehicles pose the greatest danger to pedestrian/cyclists at this intersection. Law states that motorist must stop before making a right on red, I even believe there is a no right on red when pedestrians are present at this intersection, but is rarely observed. Given where the trail enters the intersection, I think it gives inadequate sight-line and a false impression to right turning motorists that they are free and clear. I have personally witnessed and experienced several close calls with drivers try to beat the light. This should be a No Right on Red intersection.
Wishing you to a speedy recovery!

Did you join the Freezing Saddles 2019 Strava team? If not, please do so now, and try again on the FS website: https://freezingsaddles.org/authorize
I’ve resolved several issues in the past couple of days that were causing trouble for people in registering and showing up on the leaderboard.
I believe this has been resolved. It was an known issue that I was not aware of at the time of my posting.

ParticipantI think the culprit is his December 31, 2018 at 10:09 PM ride. Technically, this ride was done on Jan 1st, 01:09AM EDT. If one adds up all FOUR of his rides, it matches his total mileage thus far. If he had completed ride an hour early, (before 2100 PST on Dec 31 PST), it would NOT have registered.
Blame the timezone difference!

HF – That is what happens when you show up late for one my group rides.
If it makes you feel any better, I’m not on the leaderboard either. The folks that make the magic workare working on it.
I was beginning to wonder not only I can’t get to a ride in time, but also can’t follow signup instructions anymore. Maybe I should double up on Geritol and sign up for freezing walker instead
Thank you both!

ParticipantI am on the list here, but cannot find myself anywhere in the Freezingsaddles website, I’m neither in the individual leaderboard nor under “People”. I have reauthorized Strava via link sent by Chuck to allow my private info to be seen by FS. However, when I click “Login” on the far right side of FS website, it takes me to the Strava/FS Authorization dialog. When I click “Authorize”, it give me the following:

Hi, HF.So you are a Strava athlete, we get that. Unfortunately, one of these two things is true:
you are not registered with any of the configured Freezing Saddles teams, or
you did not give Strava permission for us to “View your complete Strava profile”. Without that, we can’t see what clubs you belong to.
If the latter is true, try to login again and grant us permission to “View your complete Strava profile”.Somthin’ ain’t right…
FYI, my Strava name is different from my forum name, FWIW.

ParticipantI had my forum username changed after I registered, but everything in my profile else should be preserved, include all my previous postings. Is that going to be an issue?
