The Straggler is enticing, but a new frame is $600 vs. $480 for Cross Check. Not sue what justifies the price differential, other than the purple sparkle awesomeness of the Straggler. I will check out that group. Thanks.

Thanks for all the great replies and advice. I live on the edge of Ballston/Waycroft, so I definitely will take the Custis -> MVT. From there, sounds like I have a couple good options either Jefferson on the Mall, or the route dbb suggested over the fish market. I am very familiar with Hains, but never realized there is a bike/ped lane on the Case Bridge which will take you over the Washington Channel. That seems like the route that would best avoid tourists, etc. It is great, however, to have so many doable route options.

Many thanks for the replies. For those commuting to L’Enfant Plaza, where do you keep your bikes during the day? Are there safe, public racks?
