Roadrunner Bags is having their annual 4/20 sale ()

Sweet deal on bags, 42% off a single item! (use coupon code 420LitAF) https://roadrunnerbags.us/blogs/road-runner-bags/our-annual-4-20-sale-is-back

They have a large selection of bike bags, backpacks, a couple of bikepacking bags. I have the burrito supreme handlebar bag and its great, Komorebi has one too! Only caveat, sale is only for 1 hour from 4:20-5:20 PST which is 7:20-8:20 EST. Also they sell a lot of bags during the sale, and it’ll probably take a few weeks to get one if you order one.

I’m waiting for the 13 speed. You know. For luck!

These are great suggestions! After some researching, I’m thinking a Garmin/Wahoo type computer might be overkill. The only thing I think I would like about them would be turn-by-turn nav for some point in the future when I can actually go on a leisure ride. But with imminent water-breakage, I don’t think these things are happening anytime soon. I only commute, the same routes back and forth back and forth. I use Strava to connect with friends and track mileage/maintenance on my bikes.

Maybe the speaker type options, or simple smartwatch would fit best. For the people who just commute all the time, what appeals about to you about the specialized bike computers vs something else/smartphone?

I have to disagree with you. Smokey Bob (or Smokey Joe as some of us call him) has been around all winter. It seems his cut off is about 35-40 degrees. Trey and I pass him almost every morning as we cross the 14th street bridge. He is always walking from the DC side and seems to leave at exactly the same time everyday, as we always pass him every time at approx 5:45 am. I assume this because we leave the same time everyday and always pass him in the same spot. He’s friendly and we wave and say Hi everyday.

Yes, I passed him yesterday, but also on Tuesday and Wednesday if I remember correctly. Also, I can tell you the paper started showing up yesterday and was already on the ground near the airport long before Smokey Joe would have made it there. I am convinced Smokey Joe and the paper shredder/bottle breaker are not the same person. I won’t make any assumptions about him being a junkie as I haven’t stopped to ask him about it but he seems alert and coherent when we pass and say hi.

I don’t know his backstory, but he seems ‘mostly harmless’

Still in the dark and snowing, at about 7 miles in on a 10 mile morning commute, I took a nice wipeout on the sidewalk on Independence on the north side of the Tidal Basin on what is apparently called the Kutz Bridge. Limped it the rest of the way. And, gulp, lyfted home.

    More like “Klutz” bridge amirite?

Hi! Late to the thread! Happy to be on the team. I’m a commuter, usually a sleaze or two on the weekend. I’ll try to get together for an event if I can. I have a 3 year old monster child at home and a pregnant wife. I’m not allowed out to play as often as I like.. I do keep up a solid level of base mileage per week so you can count on me for that!

This year will be my first time to do FS, I did join a few of the organized rides last year. Not really sure what I’m getting into, but I’m sure it’ll be fun, especially, if there are donuts involved!

Yay! Our first volunteer to bring donuts. I like the ones from Sugar Shack so if you could get those for our ride that would be great.

While YMMV depending on all sorts of factors, Freezing Saddles is generally way more fun when you get involved. You may not be a big forum chatter, but most of my best Freezing Saddles memories are with my teammates or other participants. A 12:01AM CaBi ride with a neighbor in snow flurries because the forecast was calling for multiple inches by morning, a bitterly cold ride with a group to Port City, team rides, #beerneuring, the Last Night Hains Point Party, or just meeting up for coffee. I’d encourage all of you to do more than just a single forum post and attend SOMETHING with other forum members.

Or riding in some cold dismal weather and seeing someone else ride by and thinking “I bet they’re doing freezing saddles too!”

In case folks are interested and aren’t on their mailing list (as opposed to me who isn’t interested but is on their mailing list): Rapha is hosting a Black Friday morning ride on 11/24. For DC, it’s about a 65 mile route that starts and finishes in Georgetown at the pop-up store, with free lunch provided. Anyone interested can RSVP at https://ti.to/rapha_n_america/black-friday-ride The route is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26461991

Will they still feed you if you get dropped?

I vote go to Bike Shop. It shouldn’t keep happening. Explain that it keeps happening, and see if they can find an issue. Ask if you can watch what they do to fix/adjust, or ask them to explain how they did it. Then you are still learning, learning!

I’ve done a couple of Freezing Saddles Fantasy League drafts on long car rides with Komorebi and LSG. Most of our picks end up being based on people we like riding with the most, which is sometimes divorced from picks that would result in the most points.

Remind me to never go on a car ride with you three.

It’s hard enough texting and riding at the same time, now you want me to report traffic conditions in real time??

NO e-bikes! There. That should start things off right.
