Any reports of conditions from MVT up FMT to WOD (Crystal City to Bluemont Junction)?

Didn’t ride today but would like to tomorrow.

    Thanks.

I sent a note to Arlington County this morning asking them to fix this intersection sooner rather than later given that the other side took over 3 months. Here is the response I received.

We apologize for any inconveinence to the normal funtion of the subject. It is the contractors intention to complete the asphalt paving for the proposed realignment of bike trail as soon as the weather permits. We will monitor safety issues and make appropriate adjustsment until completed. Happy Thanksgiving and Enjoy!

Yes. Would have been nice if the barrels were placed BEFORE the big drop occurred heading west this morning.

The fence at the stairway was opened last week. On Saturday I “rode” down the switchbacks. Clearly this is not a trail connection designed for cyclists and I will continue to use Glebe to access Potomac Ave.

    Me too.

There were four approaching officers when I left the light giveaway around 430. Maybe some NPS and definitely some MWAA folks. Some looked angry. I hope it played out well.

I went through about 4:25 and saw all the officers. They seemed ok when I got there. Each officer had a light in hand.

I rode down this path yesterday not realizing that it was not properly open at the bottom. There are no barriers at the top at all any more.

It’s nice that they have done this but it was not an easy or comfortable ride for me and I will probably continue to cross Jeff Davis via Glebe Rd.

If people were eligible for both subsidies at the same time, bike commuting on ‘paper’ would skyrocket. But I feel that many would never get on a bike — just take the subsidy. IMHO.

I like the idea of just one subsidy…or get rid of them altogether.

    Thanks everyone.

Does sound like we need to take an alternative route through the streets of NW DC.

We are opting for a hike instead and will try to figure out Hillwood another day.

Definitely better. Still have to pay good attention given all the barrels, etc. But a big improvement!

I’ve been riding W&OD in Arlington to Crystal City for 4 years now. The only time I felt unsafe was one day when I was exiting the trail at Glen Carlyn. I have to get off my bike and walk the hill. Some fellow was ranting and yelling all sort of obsenities at me as he was leaving the restroom area. I stopped a fellow walking his dogs and asked him to just hang w/ me while the fellow went on his way. Someone must have called this in since over the next day or two there were quite a few policemen in cars and bikes along the trail.

I got this response from Gerald Roberson of Arlington in response to my sidewalk repair report. Not really informative.

“We are planning to continue the construction @ the subject location within the next two weeks. The trail will remain accessible until then.”

I just entered a ‘sidewalk’ report on this with Arlington County. Not sure if it was the right place.
