I see it in the directions, but it is still seems a little wrong. I guess I’ll have to trust it.

My sincere condolences for your loss.

Some credit cards offer theft insurance automatically with purchases. Again, check with your provider.

I’d cover all my bases to see if someone else will reimburse you for the loss. I’d also raise holy hell with bldg management (all they can say is “go away”). If you buy another bike, I’d find a way to take it into the office with me (regardless of what bldg security says).

Thanks for the CC theft insurance advice. I kept at it and it looks like I’ll re-coup $500 through my credit card. It is not a lot, but it will be enough to purchase a frame to build.

Sadly I got nowhere with building management, except for working on securing bike parking.

I heard about this as well. My bike was stolen (march 29th) from a garage attached to the same garage that cycle life is attached to. There has been a bit of a rash of thefts here, so I’m not super surprised. Curious if police involvement will make thing better. If anyone sees a gray Salsa vaya 3 show up someplace, please let me know.

So sorry this happened to you!

Here is the only photo I ever took. The bike had a front fender when it was stolen.

@Ccrew – at the very least, looks like we are going to get a secure bike room. Too bad it had to take me losing my bike to get some action. If we as bikers would have pushed harder, perhaps this may have occurred earlier

– Checked the u-lock. The theft protection only lasts 3 years. I guess that is their way of getting you to buy a new lock. They will be sending me a new lock though. Also, checked into the Credit card thing. I so super excited when I saw this cause I remember that Amex does this. Unfortunately, the bikestore only tool visa/MC, so I used my visa. Only Business Visas get this benefit. Checked with my homeowners. The deductible is enough to just pay for the whole thing out of pocket. If only I had purchased a more expensive bike! Raise hell is my next plan. Management will be hearing from me.

@off2ride
– waiting on the serial number from Salsa. Cops were cool, but I don’t expect them to do anything at all. The guys at Cyclelife and Spokes etc are already on the lookout. I’ll send you a PM with that info.

Thanks for the replies. The photos are very helpful, but I am undecided as to what the best option is. The garage looks a little shielded for my tastes. While Metro looks like it may get too much traffic, I’m leaning that way.

My issue now is that I need to empty the extra money I had in a transit account prior to biking regularly. I’ll have to put it in a smart trip. Apparently they won’t allow to have a separate transit account and get the benefit.

After 3 year of nice emails to HR, they have finally agreed to do implement the bike benefit program in my office. Great news on a great bike commuting day!

Cars there are always looking downhill at the traffic headed up Lee Hwy

I always assume that there is a car on Quinn ready to mow me down. Looking left (and right) is a must before proceeding. Doing that without brake is crazy.

UPDATE: Saw the bike in the garage this morning. New pads all around!

I tried toe neoprene covers, extra socks and even duct tape. Regardless, my toes would feel numb at about 25 degrees. I found swiftwick socks(best I’ve used) , then broke down and bought some winter shoes this year. My toes have been nice and toasty at 20 degrees this year.

One thing that I like about them is that they’re truly made in a mom and pop shop. It is a really nice couple who sew them at night when they get home from work. Unfortunately, it can lead to some long lead time.

It is so rare that I get to buy something awesome that was actually made here, so I was happy to wait for mine. Hands were nice and warm this morning!

I’ve been using the same “quick stick” tire lever for about 10 years now. (the first one lasted around 10 years too)
http://www.rei.com/product/546083/quik-stik-tire-changer

I misplaced the quick stick at some point and bought some top peak tire levers. I broke2 or 3 of them in a matter of 3 tire changes. Eventually I found the quickstick and all was good in the world.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this?? http://www.amazon.com/Topeak-60001001-The-Bar-Extender/dp/B000FIAVN8

Just wondering if it was useful, or not.

Not sure if the one you refer to clips on and off, but I have something similar http://www.amazon.com/Minoura-28-35mm-Handlebar-Spacegrip-3-Black/dp/B004ME6KH2/ref=sr_1_19?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1321988493&sr=1-19 for a NiteRider MiNewt that connects to the bars via rubber straps. I mount the two lights+ the battery to the little arm. It clips to the bars in seconds before I head out in the evening.

I just got that same cordless MiNewt 600 and I can’t believe how bright the thing is. A bargain right now at just over $100.

Was sporting my moose mitts this morning. They are easily one of the best cold weather purchases I have. Thanks Pete for evangelizing about their awesomeness. Order them early, as this place is quite literally, a small business with about 4 people (I imagine elves) who sew these by hand. Mine were ordered right before Christmas and I got mine in early Feb.
