Runners do that so the bumps are easier to see.
Can we spray paint the runners so that they are easier to see?

ParticipantI’m on the fence, but if I go, I’ll be in the 8:15 CAT4 mess.

Which PI tights have you been using? I just started commuting on my bike in late September, and have gotten by with bike shorts and leg warmers until this week. But with the temps in the 30s on Monday, my boys were not happy! A pair of PI windproof/water resistant amfib tights over my bike shorts did the trick for me.
Definitely a pretty steep learning curve getting used riding in the cooler temps, for sure. On the plus side, at least the MVT isn’t as crowded now.
I’ve been riding in the cold for a long time, never had these issues until last year… maybe after having kids my body redirected the bloodflow elsewhere…
I use the light-weight PI tights with short or knicker bibs- AmFib is just too warm on the rest of me (I hate sweaty knees…). I suspect that the wind briefs plus bibs plus tights will do the trick down to my 20 deg (ambient) cut-off.

Ha! Amazon just delivered my daughter’s Balance Bike (Skuut) for Christmas this afternoon. I CANT WAIT TO PUT IT TOGETHER AND TRY IT OUT. Err… have my daughter try it out.
Quick tip- if your daughter is on the young and or short inseam side, assemble the Skuut with the “top tube” / plank upside down and drill a quick 1/4″ hole for the new seat position. It drops the stand-over by 2″+ inches beyond the lowest OE seat position and gives the bike a super-cruiser look…

The seams could be an issue, but I could always wear them over my tights I suppose. Technically, we have a household moratorium on buying any bike gear ’till after the holidays are over but I’m making an executive decision on this one…

Craft makes a wind-blocker brief that is designed to help. I have tried them and found that they don’t let out enough moisture, so I sweat and then freeze.
That. Sounds. Awful.

ParticipantOn the other hand, it easily takes me 10 more minutes to get ready in the winter, even when everything is laid out in a neat line at my door- shoe covers over lugged MTB shoes are the bane of my mornings- 05:00 this morning I was lying on my face on the hardwood floor of my foyer and slowly spinning trying to stretch out my leg in such a way that I could get the &%#$ zipper over the heel of the shoe… there was much cussing. Then, tights + bibs + jacket + liners + lobster mitts, I realized that I had to pee…
It took me a few miles to regain my ‘smug’ and then my light (that I’d forgotten to charge) died.

Hilarious.
Did your bike come with canti rear brakes and direct pull V brakes up front? Also is the front a mini-v brake? I didn’t think integrated brake/shifters worked with long pull V brakes. The reason I’m asking is I’m planning a drop bar conversion on a bike with V-brakes and about to order mini-V’s to work with Tiagara shifters.
Johnny is an old Lemond Poprad- when I acquired him he had dual Avid shorty canti’s… I couldn’t stand them up front (Link to thread) and settled on a set of Paul Mini-moto linear (short) pull fronts. I now have about 1500 miles on them and am still really jazzed about their performance. Adding the interrupter levers was a great move as well. However, just this morning I found some sort of special slime on Difficult Run trail that lubed up my rim so badly that I lost 95% of my braking power and shot into the trees. Meanwhile, my buddy on his Avid mechanicals merrily went on his way right through the goo. If I could (and felt like spending the money) I’d rebuild that front with a disc but I don’t think that the frame has enough life left to justify a new fork.
Only other issue with the Paul (besides cost) is that it takes some fiddling and a 15mm wrench to get it dialed in after a wheelset change (I switch back and forth between a set of commuter slicks and the CX tires). It’s not a huge deal but like most Paul products, the documentation is well-neigh nonexistent so some trial and error is in order.
The other huge improvement I recently made was switching from high pressure CX (Hutch Piranha @ 80psi) to low pressure tubeless CX (Michelin Mud2 @ 38-40psi)- off road handling is a TON better at the lower pressures even if my on-piste performance is a bit slower. Also- no more evil pinch flats…

Tim, if you ever come across a bloody, still, seemingly lifeless horse lying in the bike trail and you go up close to inspect it and it suddenly rises up and bites your face off with its big horse teeth and tramples you and breaks all you leg and arm bones with its huge hooves, don’t say I didn’t warn you about beating horses until you are absolutely sure they are dead.
Is it in the crosswalk? Or the street? Between the two? Was it perchance riding a bicycle? Is it lifeless because of a lack of a helmet? Sooo many questions!

ParticipantBut don’t go the other way… getting a 700×30 tube in a 700×23 tire no worka so well.
My only caveat with tube sizing is that on my CX I’m waaay more likely to pinch-flat with an undersized tube. YMMV.

I wear only the Gore Men’s Phantom Jacket. It’s water resistant. The GoreWindstopper is in the front and the back mesh gives good ventilation. It prevents overheating. Here is the link.
I use the jacket all the way down to 25 degrees and up to about 50 and then take off the sleeves in the afternoon. I really like the fit (size large for a skinny, long torso’ed, broad shouldered 6’2″ er). Downsides? My first one blew a zipper in about 3 weeks and it doesn’t do a heck of a lot of good in heavy or prolonged rain. As said elsewhere, underlayers are key…
