    Congrats?!

Comfortably mid-pack. Saving our energy for the sprint no doubt! Thanks Steve — for that you get mountain bike in the snow and dog pics.

The Proteus Velo mountain bike meetup is ON for tomorrow morning at Fairland. Meet at Proteus at 9am to drive over or at 930am at Fairland (behind the Gardens Ice House). 6-7 miles, non-technical, no water crossings when it’s below freezing! Here was last week’s ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/6533724136

Hey y’all! I’m Sam, third year doing freezing saddles, though got Covid last year that sidelined me quite a bit. I’m on Arlington (Ballston) and ive been working from home for the pandemic and enjoy getting out and biking as a way to break off from the computer. Excited to be in the group! Would love to join some group rides, I’m limited mostly to road or paved surfaces but always willing to try stuff.

Thanks for organizing and all the info! I’ll try to be a bit more regular in here since this seems to be where the party’s at!

Also, i don’t have a pet of my own but I’m always happy to view dogs or cats (and other pets!) of all shapes and sizes

Welcome Sam! We’re waiting on our tenth player. We had one person who had to drop out so hoping to get a replacement player. Jeff

Nice ride today on the Anacostia River Trails today. Now virtually all clear. Found one trouble spot where the plows from Route 50 above dump ice on the trail. Other than that, clear going.

ARTS Anacostia River Trail System pretty much all clear in Prince George’s county. https://www.strava.com/activities/6544817112 @PGParks has done some nice drainage work where the NE Branch trail goes down nearest the river — those ponds are now mere puddles. But there are still several puddle or runoff spots, particularly near the CSX train bridge, that could freeze overnight. And there’s one spot on the long ART causeway where it goes under Route 50 that’s still icy enough that you need to slow way down or Flintstone it through.

Cross posted from that other thread…

Happy MLK Day! Looks like the weather has lifted out, so this ride is ON. Meetup at 11am — slow-ish recon ride around the local trails, some shovel and broom work on the wood bridges and a few shady spots, and back. 20 miles, looks like about 1″ or less of soft but slippery snow has stuck overnight on the trails. Expect temp between 30 and 35 (not bad), but a chilly breezy building this afternoon. Bring water — it’s easy to forget your hydration when it’s cold.

    Hello Team 4!
Many thanks to Jeff for being our fearless leader. I think this is my fifth year doing FS and have loved every year, I’m sure this year is no exception. I live in DC and work from home almost 2 years now, and like Komorebi, that keeps my miles down, but I love going out and playing games so there’s hope. I just discovered a coffee club in DC on Fridays and plan to attend this week. And Jeff I plan to do a Proteus ride too. Question Jeff about the mountain bike ride — is a gravel suitable for the ride?? Hope to meet everyone soon!!

Fairland is doable on a gravel bike with sufficient youth and skill these days. They’ve done some trail work and it’s smoother in many areas though still some rooty sections that would be tougher on rigid bike. I rode there for years on single speed rigid mtb bike without too many problems. Those skills are fading though https://strava.app.link/rIH65PETRmb

Our club 930am mountain bike ride at Fairland is ON for this morning. Bring warm toes. Meet at PRoteus to drive over at 9am or at Fairland behind the Gardens Ice House at 930am for ride start. 1 hour max, intermediate terrain (non-tech), medium pace. Jeff

Kitties are acceptable on this thread. Although if they wake up the hound puppy, they will be in for a merry chase.
