I’ve lost count of people who asked if that was me. No, but if I ever meet her in person Ima buy her a beer.

To bring this hopelessly hijacked thread to some kind of conclusion, crews repainted the bike lanes on Army Navy Drive as of this morning. The northbound lane is buffered/protected as was planned.

But really, how bad could it be? I mean there are full-length buses that drive down city streets …

You know your route best. But as long as you’re on streets or bike lanes, maneuverability shouldn’t be too much of an issue. The kids will have to get the hang of starting, stopping, and working with-you-not-against-you on balancing and hills. Just takes some practice, and they’ll feel more like they’re contributing rather than just going along for the ride. Other cyclists will treat you like a loaded semi-truck and give you a lot of clearance.

I only get wigged out in the stoker seat when my pilot attempts some hairpin turn blocked by bollards, or other questionable sketchy nonsense. Don’t do that.

Tandems aren’t for everyone, triples even less so. But somehow I think you could pull this off.

I moved to Nauck last spring and have been doing the Glebe to Army Navy route to get to pentagon city since then. But I really dislike glebe and would love another option.

If you’re actually riding on Glebe, I can understand why you dislike it! Not a great situation, especially during rush hour.

You could take the W&OD trail until you pass under I-395, then cross over into the neighborhood either where W Glebe meets S Glebe (take the “exit” to Four Mile Run Dr and follow the sidewalk to the traffic light), or at Meade (by the Giant). Both are safe crossings with traffic lights, crosswalks and pedestrian signals. From there it’s quiet streets to Army Navy Dr.

Of course, going home you’d have to climb from the W&OD up into Nauck. (Hills make you stronger!)

What’d they put in that lemonade?! (I tried to delete that one and gave up, relying on some message that it would disappear within an hour.)

Egads. If DC doesn’t learn to behave with these dockless bikes, we won’t be allowed to have nice things anymore.

In case you’re not keeping up or weren’t in the city yesterday, yellow ofo (lowercase) bikes have now joined the dockless bikeshare fray for a total of FIVE companies piloting programs in DC.

ofo held a little reception in Dupont Circle. Riding one of their yellow bikes to the party didn’t earn me any extra swag, but I drank the free lemonade and gave them some vital feedback. Their bikes have 3 gears suitable for urban biking, but the seatpost was actually too short for me (I ride a 54, and my knees were complaining).

The biggest glitch was that their app didn’t map my ride correctly, instead it appeared that I rode a very straight line across the North Atlantic. Now that’s worth a free drink!

Takes all of 5 minutes to download the app, set up an account, and go. Free through the end of October.

ofo scattered 400 bikes in the business district. Four were outside Farragut North.

(We biked out and took the MARC back — the MARC didn’t have a special bike car like it was supposed to, but fortunately the train wasn’t crowded).

Wait, so MARC actually let you put bikes on the train with no bike car? Pretty cool if so.

Don’t hesitate to put your bike on the MARC and explore Baltimore one weekend day — we had a really nice time biking around the city. There’s lots to do and see.

Sadly, it seems that some of Baltimore’s new bike infrastructure, including the Maryland Ave cycletrack, is at risk of demolition.

Siiiiigggghhhhhh. Yeah fine, streets need to be wide enough for fire equipment. But Roland Ave (where my friend Tom Palermo was killed) is an urban speedway badly in need of a road diet and solidly protected bike lanes. Going backwards is unacceptable.

We spent Saturday last weekend toodling around Baltimore, too. Connections between West Baltimore station, the B&O Railroad Museum, the Inner Harbor and Penn Station were all quite bike-friendly (though the neighborhood around West Baltimore is more than a little sketchy). We explored some of the Jones Falls Trail, which has a few design flaws but creates a mostly protected north-south route through the city. MARC service was horribly delayed both coming and going, which sucked hours out of our day, caused major childcare hassles, and prompted us to declare Sunday as a “public transit free” day.

I recommend Select Physical Therapy on Army Navy Drive. The building is still called Anderson Clinic. The staff are all great, but Molly Sliva has been my best ally in the knee process.

Sorry short people…. you’re gonna get right hooked.

Actually, the marked bike lane is only the section between the country club underpass and Lynn. So there’s only one intersection (at Nash) to be concerned about, and the way it’s configured there are no dangerous blind spots.

Hopefully it will slow down traffic (especially the buses) as designed. IMO, I think it’s a win.

I got a reply this morning about Army Navy Drive — the bike lanes will be back eventually.

    “Good morning,
I totally understand your frustration with the unmarked pavement condition of the road.
We are in the process of lay out and Re-stripping soon ! the micro seal coat requires some time to fully cure.
    I will keep you posted.”

Coffeeneuring is a self-challenge. An endeavor. A Thing, for sure. There is nothing remotely “contest-y” about Coffeeneuring. Perhaps it’s the one bikey event that I enjoy the most, infused with all kinds of good sense* and purpose.

I will host a Home Coffeeshop (refer to rule #3) one day during the week, since so many of you fly by my neighborhood on your way to work. It’ll be on a day when I can work from home, likely a Monday or Friday. Date and details TBD… stay tuned.

*Those of you lacking anything resembling “good sense” are of course invited to come drink coffee as well!

My neighborhood streets were slurry sealed (same stuff only not as thick) as part of the same project. I don’t object to the surface, in that it beats cracks and potholes.

But I would like to see the bike lanes put back. I sent Alex Portillo a quick note asking for info and a timeline.
