Anybody know a reliable source to see what the average commute/trip is for a Copenhagen cyclist?
Under the Super bikeways section Wiki says:
“Since traffic planners believe it will be very difficult to raise the modal share substantially beyond the current 50% for its own residents,[22] the city has begun targeting commuters entering the city from surrounding municipalities on trips in the 5-15 kilometre (3-9 mile) range, aiming to increase the number of bicycle commuters by 30% throughout the capital region.”
Which leads me to believe that the 36% commuters that they have at the moment are commuting less than 3 miles.

ParticipantSame deal as normal, we’ll meet at JavaShack at 6 am, but after that our second rally point is the Italian Store on Rt. 29 at 6:10, then off into the N. Arlington hills. When we do this ride we’re generally back to the WOD in Falls Church just before 7. Then we’ll bike back to JavaShack for coffee at 7:15ish.
Pace is social.
Hope you can join us.

P.S. I left my shower flip flops at home today too. Great lol…Frustrated in Ballston
I have a friend who works in the Ballston mall office tower (and I’m trying to get him to ride to work). Does anyone know if that building has a locker room, and if so, where it is?
Thanks.

ParticipantAre there, or are there plans for, a requirement that buildings with X parking spaces also provide Y shower/locker room facilities? (For me locker rooms are more important than bike lanes in getting me to bike to work).

Gonna try to meet up with you at the WOD and custis junction
Sorry we missed you. We had a guy go down right at the start so that delayed us a couple of minutes from normal. If you get to the Custis intersection before 6:15 it’s a pretty safe bet we won’t have rolled through and you could turn up Custis and ride towards Ballston. We should be fairly easy to identify, generally 3 to 4 people going west; winter jerseys are red, red, red, neon yellow (that’s me).

Maybe next time.
Next week after HDCC? I’ve got next Wednesday off w/ no where to be but on my bike (not entirely true, but much more true than on my average Wednesday).

ParticipantLate night reminder for loop ride tomorrow morning 6am from Java Shack, 6:20ish from W&OD / Custis intersection with appearances at CX “event” at GP park around 7.

I would prefer one way cycletracks (or bike lanes) on the right side of the road.
Me too.
Any chance that the sidewalk on the TR bridge is in the scope of the Rosslyn improvement project? It really should be wider and or separated from traffic with a higher fence.

ParticipantWe’re doing a pre-coffee / CX warm-up ride tomorrow. Meeting at Java Shack at 6, then do the loop counterclockwise (putting us at the W&OD / Custis intersection at ~6:20/25ish. The group will probably split at HDCC, and then split again at gravely point (with some staying for the CX racing).
Hope to you can join us.

If you see a mid-1990s vintage black Trek 830 mountain bike converted to drop bar tourer/commuter
Can we get a pic of that?

ParticipantWill anyone be at HDCC around 7/7:30? Or will everyone be at the CX ride?

ParticipantWithout understand our IT problem at all, I was just wondering if not having teams would remove the problem?
I was on the misfit team last year, so it was really an individual competition for me, which I was perfectly happy with.

ParticipantWhere do you live / where do you ride? What do you ride?
Definitely try to make it to a Friday Morning Coffee Club (FMCC). FMCC II meets in Arlington at the Java Shack between 7 and 9ish
GB
ParticipantBig FMCC II turn out today and the pre-coffee ride group is growing too.
Thanks everyone for a great ride around the Loop. Sorry I forgot to post here yesterday to invite everyone else.
Just so everyone knows, I think this is getting close to being a standing ride. Meeting at Java Shack at 6, doing the Loop counter clockwise, and return to the Shack around 7:15. (That puts us at the Custis / W&OD intersection around 6:20 if that’s a better meetup spot for you). (The counter clockwise direction means we’re at the Key Bridge around 7 for those headed to FMCC I).

ParticipantI think that it’s fair to consider it “blaming the victim” if it’s after the accident. Does, “I didn’t even see you there” sound familiar?
But I also think it’s fair to politely notify peds that they are hard to see as you pass them on normal/accident free ride.
I do think we have to have to be very careful about having double standards with the way we expect drivers to treat us and they way we treat peds.
