Yes. It’s how many times you collect the segments during FS that counts. It makes for a simple data pull and computation of the winners.
Bentbike: Thanks for this fun challenge! Just to clarify……Doesn’t have to be all 8 in the same Strava RIDE. So as I understand it, if I get 7 one day, but pick up the missing segment the next day (or even the next week), that counts as one loop? (and so forth for every complete set 1-8 collected during BAFS17. Is this it?

I see these segments on the ride you posted. When you’re looking at this ride, scroll all the way down to the bottom and click “Show 101 Hidden Efforts”. CW2 and CW5 are both in the list of hidden segments.
Judd,
Wow! Thanks! You’re right. I feel so much better.

ParticipantMost know my familiar morning ride of the Arlington Loop going clockwise. For some sad reason TWO segments NEVER appear on my segment-list even though my ride picture and official segment histories clearly show I was there!

Dang! I had a real shot at this prize!

ParticipantKitty, Your remarks really captured the spirit of GPS art: so many new streets to see and explore for the first time, the unexpected staircase, alley, or muddy hill bushwhack, and don’t forget stream jumping! But all for the sake of art. Your theme aptly apropos. Dave

Yesterday after fueling up at the Friday Coffee Club (Arlington edition) I set out for my first #StravaArt, also themed for the inauguration:

On Monday after my ride I sat down with a copy of the Arlington Bike map and a pencil and started looking for a part of town that matched my vision, and started drawing and planning. I made up a cue sheet so as to not miss any important U-turns etc, and set out, “sites unseen.”
I’m glad it was a light traffic day since it meant a lot of riding on arteries such as Lee Hwy, and along the way I met some interesting climbing opportunities (aka surprise 7% grade hills). Also, despite what the 2015 Arlington Bike Map says, you can’t get from 17th to the Custis Trail without cyclocrossing your bike down a hill on a muddy unofficial footpath through the woods, and then back up again. Which I did. Because ARTISTIC VISION! 😎

ParticipantKomorebi, VVill, EminVA,
I hope you’re reading this! I like collaboration as well as competition. I might try a few. I always welcome company, if anyone is interested, and I welcome invitations to ART-RIDE with others. Let the fun begin!Fast Friendly Guy

Was it Nietzsche who said “Biking is the proper task of life and art is the proper task of biking”? Anyway, this is the thread to enter for the BAFS2017 “Best Strava Art” pointless prize. The winner of the best entry submitted by March 1 will receive Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.*
You should post an image of your entry here, along with a link to the ride on Strava. Entries will be assessed by a panel of judges (possibly a very small panel) against criteria including artistic merit, complexity and size/scale.
*Or a prize of equal or lesser value.

Mike’s parking lot was in the process of being cleared when DKel and I rode past this afternoon. While they may open late tomorrow, they will be open for Monday (Morning) Pancake Club. (OK, it looks like they opened at 11:00 this morning. A little late for on-the-way-to-work.).

By far, the best commute of the past two weeks. Took W&OD to 4MR to MVT to 14th St bridge. Perfect conditions for studded tires and I was never cold.
It was the same for me.

ParticipantMy class was over at 9:30 but I didn’t get on the road until 10. I was riding the Black Battleship (aka Blackie) Trek Cross Rip with a bit of tread, but certainly could have used my wheels w studs! Everywhere was a layer of ice with an inch or two of fallen snow. It was so slippery cars were going sideways! From MU I took Glebe, a few side roads, then Lee Hwy W. to EFC. I stayed on the sidewalk most of the way, not because it was easier, but I wanted to be away from sliding cars! I averaged 5 MPH, Garmin paused accidentally so I didn’t record the 2.5 mile ride home.
This morning, the trails should be okay for studs. We haven’t had a thaw yet, so the footsteps and wheel trails from last night haven’t yet formed the frozen footsteps of death!

ParticipantOh no! Monday morning is pancakes at Mike’s Deli @ 730.
