    • Roll out from Whole Foods at 9:00 a.m. and ride to Falls Church.
    • Be at Mark’s Duck House, 6184 Arlington Blvd., when it opens at 10:00 a.m. Order dumplings and other dishes from traditional dim sum carts.
    • Ride some of the new bike lanes in Annandale to get to A&J, 4316 Markham St. Enjoy dumplings and other Chinese small plates.
    • Ride more of the new bike lanes in Annandale to get back to the W&OD.
    • Finish the ride at District Dumplings in South Arlington, 2923 S. Glebe Rd.

    Have questions? Read on.

Why dumplings? As bikedavid pointed out, there’s nothing like a steaming hot plate of dumplings on a cold winter day.

What’s the route? https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29186688. About thirty miles, a mix of trails and roads. Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop. All FS participants and friends are welcome.

What should I bring? Bring a lock and cash (A&J is cash only).

Can I join the ride along the way? Sure. Send me a PM with your email address so that I can temporarily add you to my Garmin LiveTrack. You’ll get an email when we start riding, with a link to see where we are in real time.

What if I’m vegetarian? A&J and District Dumplings have both meat and vegetarian dumplings, as well as other vegetarian dishes. I can’t find the dim sum menu for Mark’s Duck House online, but there should be vegetarian options.

What if the weather is bad? My Asian food rides have a history of being epically soggy. I’m hoping that the third time is the charm, but watch this thread for updates.

the Chinese New Year, which starts on February 5 this year. Dumplings are traditionally eaten to bring good luck in the new year.

Hello, Joan, I don’t have your email, so I’m using your team thread to reach out to you and say congratulations on your BAFS2019 awesome riding! I know we’ve met and we were even on the same BAFS team a few years ago, but I regret we never got to talk much. I admire your commitment to significant riding every day, and it’s an honor to be near you on the BAFS individual leader board. Would you like to ride together sometime? How about an Arlington Loop or even your neighborhood meander? And of course, there’s always the Arlington/Falls Church coffees.

    Safe riding,

Annie, thanks for your reply and a hearty welcome to our team! It doesn’t take much to succeed at Freezing Saddles: Do your best to ride (at least) one mile a day, and the SLEET 16s team will start climbing the team leader board!

About Don Harvey: Don has graciously agreed to give up his spot on the team, (hence Annie’s arrival as our newest teammate).

Here’s my recent email conversation with Don:

Dave. No problem. I understand. Good luck. Don.

Don, Thanks for your reply. I hope you have a lot of fun on your cruise, and I look forward to eventually meeting you, and maybe riding together sometime.

Yes, unfortunately, stationary bikes don’t qualify for participation in BAFS. Considering that you misunderstood this rule and that you sent your bike to Korea and won’t be riding until the end of February, I’m going to ask Chuck Penna to allow someone else who’s willing and able to ride now to have your place on our team.

This isn’t personal and I wish you the best of luck,

HiDavid. When I sign up for freezer Saldels. I didnt see anything about the stationary bike. Since I knew I was moving soon. I will be riding again but not till Late Feburary. I am riding but just stationary. I am on a cruise now and will be back in Va next week to finish my move to Korea. Good luck. Don.

Hello, Chuck, I’m talking now to a Team 16 teammate who, for one reason or another, hasn’t ridden for two weeks, trying to find out why. Depending on what I learn and what the rider wants, is it too late to give someone else a chance on our team? I should hear back within 48 hours.

    Thanks, Dave

Curious about the W&OD between Falls Church and Wheile Ave and beyond. Anyone tried it recently?

    Dear Team 16.

So sorry for me sleeze-a-palooza this week. Me in shop. Then bike in shop. Onward! Lissa (aka Olive)

Lissa, Just the opposite! You should be proud for any day you ride more than one mile! I believe everyone on our team is doing their best, and that every ride of a mile or more makes an important benefit for our team. If we all ten of us did a sleaze ride (or more) a day, the TEN points plus point miles add up faster than you might think!

I challenge all SLEET 16ers: (At least) a sleaze a day!

Alan, Wow! Congratulations on some fantastic riding and 836 cumulative individual points (as of today, Saturday morning) enough to earn a NUMBER 2 spot on the BAFS individual leaderboard. I see your just ahead of my good friend, Chris W, who is also an amazing athlete. Friendly advice…watch your rearview mirror!

Everyone, Some great riding this week! The snow and aftermath was a challenge to us all, and we came through shining.

    Ok thanks.

Andy, Welcome to our team. Alan was correct, and I have added you to our Sleet 16s BASF 2019 Team.
Membership is complete with all 10 riders! Now every day that any of us rides at least one mile we get points for each mile plus 10 points to our individual and team scores!

Andy, As our captain, I have a request. Would you please contact each of our team members, and add mobile phone numbers for each rider on our team contact list. I’m sending the list to your email. Email the updated list back to me and each of our team mates. Thanks. Email because of list privacy.

    About our team status:

Our team status is understated because a couple of our team members (who correctly joined our club) are not showing up on the team leader-board, so their miles are not showing. I notified Chuck Penna.

Meanwhile everyone should check for their names and miles on https://freezingsaddles.org/leaderboard/individual_text. If your name or miles are missing here you’ll need to fix that.

Another teammate, Andy Greenwood, is not showing up anywhere. Anyone know Andy? I emailed him to let him know he has until Friday to complete signup.

Have some fun in the snow, everyone! David P

    Hi Team 16 BASF2019 SLEET 16s,

Welcome teammates! Once you find this Forum Thread, subscribe via the forum, for easy repeat access.
This Forum Thread will be our primary communication mode.

First order of business: Join our Strava Cub.
Everyone has either already joined our Strava Club https://www.strava.com/clubs/sleet16s or has been invited to join (go ahead and join when you get the email). Each team member must belong to the club to have his/her miles count. It’s closed membership, so request to join and I will accept your request.

Our team strategy is simple and effective:
    1. Try and ride every day, at least one or two miles (more if possible)
    2. Be safe and have fun
    3. Enjoy competing for the many pointless prizes

I look forward to meeting everyone on our team and invite you to participate in morning coffee rides, happy hours, group rides, etc.
Suggestions and ideas are welcome from everyone. Remember this thread is a (public) forum, so other teams can read what we write.
For team strategies that we may not wish to reveal, we can use email addresses found our Sleet 16s Strava club.

    Safe and fun riding,
    Dave (aka Fast Friendly Guy)

Hello. Thanks to everyone involved for setting up the user interface . The Freezing Saddles Leaderboard identifies me only as “David”. Would it be possible to identify me more specifically?
How about David P. or FFG. The way it is now, even I don’t know who I am) Thanks again.

Who should I ask about this?
