ParticipantI never rode with VeloDCity but the routes sound very similar, at least from Brookeville. Great riding out there. Come join us next week.

Hi Eric. I might join you on your Sunday ride. I am debating whether to ride or drive to Takoma Park. If I ride from home and do your 63-mile ride it will turn into a difficult-to-handle century for me.
Don’t overdo it! Hope to see you one way or the other.

ParticipantGreat to see most of you last night, and looking forward to a fun Winter with you. FYI: I posted details about my ride this Sunday in the forum and on the calendar if anyone is interested. Otherwise, ride safely and with a smile.

ParticipantOMG! And is “the routine”?!? I hereby award you an interim prize. PM me your mailing address and phone model so I can mail you a portable battery charger you can carry with you. Fits in your pocket, not your bra, and will actually charge your phone without any risk of indecent exposure.

ParticipantThank you Steve! I forgot to do that.

ParticipantAlan: Thanks. I have not been to Lone Oak yet, so we may try that. I love Elder Pine; do you know their heater situation? Also, they don’t serve food, and food trucks usually come too late in the day for so it may take some advance planning to visit. Hope to see you one ride!
SarahBee: There is a parking lot at the Takoma Metro, as well as on-street parking in the neighborhood. Other options include: Safeway at Piney Branch and Van Buren, and meet us at Aspen and Georgia or meet us at the French School (Beach & Woodbine) and park at the French School or Meadowbrook Park, just across Beach Dr. Depending on where you are coming from, and how far you want to ride, we can coordinate a rendezvous. Hope to see you on the road!

ParticipantPersonally, I liked the points system last year. The extra bonus points got me riding a bit more on days i might have slacked off. That said, I tend to agree with bmilah that lowering the bonus level to 5 miles or so is worth considering. In addition to lowering the “penalty” for missing a day or riding only a few miles, I think it would tend to encourage people to get out for even a short ride during a time when many (most?) folks are not truly commuting.
As for teams, I would consider organizing teams based more on location than historic mileage to make it easier for meetups, is that is safe/healthy, sharing routes, and facilitating ride-bys.
My two cents. I will happily participate whatever the rules the Cabal imposes.

ParticipantHey all! Don’t forget about this pointless prize. I know many of you have been extra-smug this year and gone that extra mile to keep your streak alive (I think someone even rode a mile or so in the Galapagos Islands; gotta be a story there!) , so please share your story of the lengths you went to get a ride in. In the hope that I get more amazing stories to share I hereby modify the rules to include anyone who has ridden more than 60 days this year (instead of all days or all days but one).
The prize is a donation in the winner’s name to the bike-related charitable cause of the winner’s choice, not to mention the wave of smugness you will feel recounting your efforts to get a ride in no matter what.
I look forward to being regaled.

ParticipantWe can do that! Thanks for the reminder

ParticipantMy ride was last Saturday and I plan to post a ride for this weekend, so stay tunes. Last Saturday I did a 200k ride from Frederick to Dover, PA and back. Fun, but wind made it tough on the outbound leg. Hope to see you this weekend.
