https://www.strava.com/activities/1375979036NICE TRY!! I am shifting this post to the Sorriest Doughnut category, full points!
I will say, your route does go near several real doughnut purveyors. Please plan to join the Virginia Doughnut ride on March 18th so you can visit them with the rest of us! EdelweissEdelweiss
ParticipantShutdown To End!
Rats, I was hoping for a few days, at least. The House still needs to vote, but they were never the problem.
Maybe we can play this game again in 3 weeks.
Eat some doughnuts before going back to work.

Beautiful! But I think there were some Gaudy ones in that case! That blue one was pretty awful; any Geraniums submitting a Gaudy?

ParticipantDoughneurers!
A special pointless prize will be awarded to whomever posts the gaudiest doughnut here between today and Tuesday, January 23rd, end of the day. What qualifies? If it looks outrageous to you, if it can be described as gaudy, then post a picture here! Bonus points if you actually taste it and post a review.
Come on, get your doughnut game on! The weather is getting better and circles of deliciousness await you at the end of your bike ride!
Who’s in? eEdelweiss

I’m new and haven’t yet figured out what I need to follow. I can’t believe I missed a donut ride in my part of dmv!
Yes, you need to look at all the threads, and Follow This One! The FS18 Doughneurers are an active group, with various team rides, infiltrators welcome, and several Official Donut Rides coming soon.
Yours truly will return to DC to lead TWO Epic Donut Rides in March, both the 17th and 18th of March, watch this space for details.
Individual doughnut quests are encouraged as well. Consularrider has an early lead, but is not insurmountable.
Also, there are periodic challenges, for which prizes will be awarded! The first one will be posted this week.Eat More Doughnuts! E

ParticipantTeam,
I am thrilled that we Penguins have been dominating the top of the team leaderboard, but Team 7 just zoomed up and is breathing down our backs! Let’s just keep riding, every day if you can, and maintain our lead over those Seventh Heaven posers! Rah, Go Team Penguins!
I am also very sorry to say about 6 miles I rode today failed to record, and no manual entries…I hope to make it up over the 3-day weekend.
It is great to be meeting you here. More introductions, please.

I do just before midnight rides quite often during the year to keep my ride streak alive! For this prize does it have to be your only ride of the day, or could I also do a midnight ride just for the hell of it in addition to my commuting or whatnot?
Yup, I just capriciously changed my rules, created a new variation, see above! e

However, according to the rules, it needs to be your one and only ride of the day. If you do another ride today, no point.
Pointlessness IS the point, so I declare a new category within the competition for “The Hell of It Rides” within the parameters defined.
There will still be an Exalted Midnight Ride Prize for the ‘Getting it in’ in the nick of time ride, as well as the 12:01 ‘Knocking off the sleaze for the day’ rides.

ParticipantHi!
I am Kate, this is my third Freezing Saddles. I was on Team 4 both previous years, so I am happy to be on Team 19 this time. While I am a very social rider, I moved to Colorado last summer, so I will not be at team rides and coffees, but I am a daily rider, so I will do my best to rack up points.
I am not sure how Kitty got stuck with 2 of us playing from out-of-state.Now for a few plugs: I am sponsoring 2 Pointless Prizes!
Back by popular demand, Doughneuring! See the #FS18donut thread to see the rules. Everyone can play, and there are weekly changing donut challenges all winter! And, I will be back in DC in March to lead two Doughnuering Epic Rides. We can make them team rides for 19. Details tbd.
New for 2018: the Paul Revere Midnight Ride pointless prize. Sleaze at the last minute to get a day’s ride in, or ride at 12:01 to get the next day’s ride in before bed. Do both for a 2-for. See the thread, midnight rides are great!I am Edelweiss on the Forum. Nice to meet you!

ParticipantDo you like Doughnuts? Who doesn’t?!
The #FS18donut Doughneuring Challenge starts now!
The Rules:
1. Ride your bike to a Doughnut Shop. Also acceptable– bakery, pastry shop, Konditerei, tea room or other purveyor of fine doughnuts.
2. Choose one doughnut from the selection, or more, as you wish!
3. Take a picture of the doughnut(s)
4. BITE into that doughnut!
5. Post on this thread that picture, location, and a description of the sweet deliciousness. The Points–subject to change at the whim of the sponsors: edelweiss, Kwarkentien, mtansill.
1. Ten (10) points will be awarded for each unique doughnut location visited with a doughnut review and photo.
1.1 You may (and should) visit multiple doughnut places of the same name, so go to all the Sugar Shacks, and B Doughnuts, and Duck Donuts you can pedal to. Once per unique storefront will count, except for that rule is waived on Official Doughneuring Rides with the sponsors.*
2. One (1) point will be awarded for each unique doughnut per location submitted with a photo and comment.
3. Many incentive challenges with bonus points will appear in this thread to keep you pedaling out in search of doughnuts. For example, points for a Valentine doughnut on or around February 14th. Watch the thread
4. This is Freezing Saddles, of course you can try to bribe the sponsors for points with offerings of doughnuts! The rider with the most points at the end of FS18 will be awarded a special pointless prize. There will be lots of prizes, equally pointless.
Some Clarifications and the Slippery Slope
No Bagels. Is a bagel a doughnut? No, it is not!
No pies. No cookies. No scones.
Absolutely No Cupcakes! However, the following sweet treats will be given consideration for points if the rider submits a compelling description and is able to sway the judges:
Aepfelskivers
Churros
Danish
Bear Claws
Beaver Tails
Kringle
Koing Amman
Chocolate Croissant
Cronuts or similar. Finally, the Sorriest Doughnut Doughneuring Prize will be awarded to the rider who submits the sorriest doughnut entry including packaged, processed, or vending machine doughnuts, such as any Hostess or Little Debbie doughnut product. Similar entries will be judged by the description of the product.
* Save the dates! Edelweiss will return to lead you on TWO doughnut rides in March: March 17th for Maryland-DC Doughnuts, and March 18th for Virginia-DC donuts. I will also be at final night Hains Point to ride like a hamster.
Eat more doughnuts!! Edelweiss

ParticipantWait, Wait!
What about riders not in the EST who are in my Paul Revere Pointless Prize competition? For instance, if I ride in the MST at my midnight, am I going to show up as 2:00am on the official FS clock?
And IMPORTANTLY, if I (or anyone else) waits to get her daily ride in until 11:45pm, will I have missed the day-window, and have the ride count as the next calendar day, since it would be 1:45EST??? Say NO! This is a critical consideration for me, as I sometimes have to do these Midnight Rides to get my daily rides in! Do I have to time my rides around 10pm Mountain time to count as a Freezing Saddles ride day (turning green?)Thanks, edelweiss

ParticipantI can’t fly out for this one, but I am excited to find out my Team assignment!
I hope to be there for the final HH in March, and I will be in DC leading TWO Doughnut Rides, one on March 17th, starting at Proteus Bikes in College Park to hit doughnuts in Maryland and DC; the second will be on March 18th and will be DC-Virginia based, details will be posted in the #FSdonuts thread in due time. SAVE the DATES!
