OK … my (just after) midnight sleaze ride today has yet to post to Freezing Saddles. I’m blaming both hozn and jrenaut.
The failure to log Strava rides on FS is widespread today… Spot check: six riders on my team have valid Strava rides today, but do not post on FS.

Thanks, yesterday’s Strava ride now posted on BAFS. I did wait 12 hours to post issue here and appreciate the awesomeness of all involved. Of course my two short rides logged on Strava this morning have NOT showed up on BAFS. Again, this is unusual since typically my Strava rides appear on BAFS almost immediately. Maybe something is tweaked?
Interestingly enough, this morning’s ride on Strava did not post to FS for over 6 hours. I went to the ride file on Strava, added #bafs2018 to the ride name, and saved the rides on Strava… almost immediately the 2 rides appeared on the FS page.

We’ve been getting a lot of support requests for this issue. It’s all because of the way hozn did the backend sync. Your ride loads to freezingsaddles.org in one of two ways.
1) It loads immediately when freezingsaddles.org receives a webhook from Strava
2) It loads at some point in the next 24 hours when freezingsaddles.org goes through and grabs all the rides that didn’t load immediately. This is all to reduce the number of times we have to ask Strava for data. They get mad if we ask too much and we risk getting cut off completely.
So, if you have a ride that didn’t load:
1) Make sure it’s on Strava
2) Wait 24 hours
3) If it STILL hasn’t loaded, contact me or hozn.Edit to add: I realize this sounds like I’m blaming hozn. I’m not. The work he did on the backend is fantastic. The real problem is that a ride is a fair bit of data, so pulling them from Strava is non-trivial. The way hozn did the sync means we ask much less of Strava’s webservers, and that makes them happy.

ParticipantThe site is responding but many rides logged today on Strava haven’t been tallied on the BAFS page.

Sorry, guys. They rebooted the digital ocean droplet and apparently the nginx container wasn’t set to start on boot.
Yeah, I use uptime robot for other things so will either use that or one of the metrics backends to send alerts if/when this happens again.

Hi everyone,
Here are the details for the Freezing Saddles Closing Happy Hour, the event at which we will give out awesome prizes and celebrate the end of the Freezing Saddles season!Date: Tuesday, April 4, 2017
(The Freezing Saddles contest ends on March 19 at midnight, but holding the happy hour on April 4 will allow time to crunch the data and prepare awards.)
Time: 6 to 8 pm (officially) but we’re welcome to stay ‘til 9:30 or 10 pm.
Location: Bier Baron Tavern, located at 1523 22nd St NW, Washington, DC (between P and Q Streets on the east side of the street)…this is near Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom in DC. We will hold the award ceremony on the stage, starting at about 7 pm. The room has audio-visual capacity….a screen, a juke box, a sound system (we can hook up an iphone or other gadgets), projector, etc.
Cover charge (suggested cash donation): $10 per person…all of this will cover food. For our opening happy hour, the Bier Baron zeroed out any charges for the private room and wait-staff, so we paid only for the food (which was $800 total). We have $200 left over from January which will go to food as well…so there will be MORE food this time, and we will stagger it in batches throughout the evening. The buffet of finger food will include soft pretzels, quesadillas, and falafel sandwiches.
Beer: Bier Baron sells 24 beers on draft, and up ‘til 7 pm there’s a $1 discount on the draft beers (the standard price is $5 to $9 for most types). They also sell 600 types of beer in bottles, and they have sodas and juices as well. There’s a full menu of dinner food for those who wish a heartier meal.
Children: If you’re not able to park your little ones with a friend or a babysitter, feel free to bring them along. This is a bar, so adults will be carded at the door, but kids are welcome until 9 pm. The award ceremony usually rates between G and PG-13.
Bike Parking: Bring a U-lock and any other locks you’ve got, ‘cause we will be parking our bikes on the street. Do not park INSIDE the neighbor’s garden – please keep your bicycle on the outer part of the railing if you lock up to any private enclosures. Before the prior happy hour we did an intensive search for bike parking facilities in the area, but without much luck. However, there are 15 racks between Bier Baron and Dupont Circle, which will hold about 70 bikes, plus assorted poles and other things to latch onto. There is also Capital Bikeshare, assuming you can find a space in which to dock your bike. And Bier Baron is located near the Dupont Circle Metro, if you opt to take transit instead.
Paper Plates: Making paper-plate name badges has become a Freezing Saddles tradition. We will have plates, markers, stickers, hole-punchers and yarn available for those who wish to design for themselves a commemorative name plate.
RSVPs: We are making a list of likely attendees so as to generate an approximate head count for food.
Please reply on this thread if you’d like to join in the fun (and please indicate the number if you’ll be bringing friends/family). All are welcome.Looking forward! w&w on behalf of your hardworking FS social committee

ParticipantMissed you last night. We made a good run at 6th place but missed it. Definitely a solid finish.

Are folks going to the HP Freezing Saddles party on Saturday? I know i plan on riding that day and then heading down there for laps, and i will likely stay to toast away winter and welcome spring that evening. It is good to see our team make a final push during this warmer weather, and i think we can take back 6th place if we all keep posting good mileage these last few days.

ParticipantFYI… TC has moved into 6th place with contributions from the entire team! If we keep putting in solid daily miles through March 19th (just two more weeks), we can finish strong!

ParticipantI was looking forward to bonus miles tomorrow.
Happy to host team TC @ Denizens in Silver Spring next Thursday if there is interest.

Ah, sorry I missed you. Saw Ed and Ms Coffeerino and other BAFS riders. My o-beltway self loves checking out DC.

ParticipantHey SOGO… I’ll be down at HP around 9:30AM for a couple laps for Team TC. Hope to see you there! Dave

My plan for tomorrow is AM Hains laps to beat the rain, followed by nachos for lunch at Las Placitas at 8th and I SE (their new location). The declining weather forecast makes me sad.
Hope to see some of you out there!

Hey there team 3! I’ll be back in DC tomorrow, and I’m planning to drive to Hains Point to run a few laps and then ride a few laps. I’ll probably be riding around 12:30 or 1pm if anyone wants to join me. I’ll be on my blue and white tri bike Trek tri bike!
I’ll be up in Frederick… Maybe Sunday?

Hey folks, great job out there. We are really making the most of the daily rides. I did some quick math and we are ahead of all the teams in front of us in average points per mile ridden at 1.775. Way to go!
Definitely, Ed, we are hanging tough. If we keep doing our best to bank days and miles, we can be a top 5 team, which is a big deal in this competition.
