ParticipantSalsa Vaya Ti. Ultimate do-everything bike. I really, really want one. More real-world choice would be a LeMond Poprad Disc but they’re discontinued and pretty rare. Bikesdirect sells a Ti cross bike with discs that seems interesting.

Okay, some of you have engineering or technical backgrounds while I have the total opposite, but wouldn’t the normal procedure be to put in the drainage pipes first and then the pavement??
Dollars to donuts the guys pouring the asphalt the guys laying the drainage piping never spoke to each other. And their foreman/contractor didn’t give a crap, they’ll just tear it up and replace it. Welcome to life in the field on construction projects…

I know it’s hard to believe but sometimes a car is the elegant solution. (I will now go to New Jersey and hide at the Formula D event)

I grew up in Southern New England (MA)…we had no such thing as true Southern Barbecue to speak of like you will find down here. I love it, all of it. Seafood is better there but ‘cue is strictly south.
Oh my friend we speak the same language. What type are you looking for? I am quite partial to Eastern North Carolina style, with spicy vinegar based sauce.
I like Carolina Brothers, they are very bike friendly and their food seriously hits the spot for trailside barbecue.
We pass by here twice on a typical ride and the trip west they are usually stoking the coals. On the return a few hours later we are always tempted to stop. We typically park at either Vienna or off 28 and head west…this place is only 10 minutes by car from the lot on 28. Although there is a lot right nearby and it might make a good start/stop point to some.If you haven’t checked this place out it is a must.
I’m a big fan of NC vinegar sauces but my favorite is Texas hill country style with a dry rub and no sauce. I’ll eat almost any style BBQ though and love it. This thread has got me thinking about a W&OD/Carolina Brothers ride this weekend.

ParticipantHow in the hell did I miss that? Or was that the one originally posted for $500 that I figured had to be stolen… not that I was following CL like I do almost every day. Great find.

Well, but there’s a big concrete pillar in the center of the sidewalk (just like on the other side of Whitehurst entrance) — the barrels are in addition to that and filling in the gap (and then some) between the center pillar and the edge of the bridge. I would think the pillar in the center by itself would prevent an auto from getting on the sidewalk.
I’m going to take a picture of it on Wednesday morning and sent it to DDOT with my comments/suggestions. Thanks for that contact, Tim.

Personal experience – DDOT is a lot more responsive to Twitter than e-mail. I’ve e-mailed them a few times and never gotten a response, but their Twitter feed is always active and responding to other users. I’m still not getting on Twitter though.

ParticipantThat’s funny, Tim dropped me like an anchor on Sunday (okay I dropped myself by dropping my chain BEFORE Tim shot off the front with the crazy fast group).
It’s okay, Tim indirectly helped a friend of mine get home safe yesterday, I gave her the bike light Tim gave me when I had forgotten my light.

Bibs are definitely not for everyone. I look totally silly in them. I’m okay with that.
The main thing is that you ride what works for you and your life.
Bibs + no jersey = old time-y strongman. I like to walk around the house like that lifting giant anvils and spherical barbells that have “100 lbs” painted on either side. I need to get a set of bibs with horizontal stripes to really complete the look.

ParticipantI really like the Performance Ultra shorts and bibs. Of all the brands I’ve tried those work for me the best, and they’re cheap. Well, not cheap, cycling cheap.

You are all so tough! As I sit in traffic on the 14th St Bridge, I will wave at you jealously as you zip by, and turn up the a/c in your honor.
I’d rather sit outside in the oven than be stuck in that mess. Wake me when the Maryland drivers figure out how to negotiate a middle lane closure.

ParticipantIf you’re riding to ATL you might as well head all the way here.
To keep it grounded in reality there’s a place called Willard’s near the Dulles Expo Center in a depressing strip mall (see here) that’s good, but that’s possibly the worst place to ride in the entire world outside of Florida. I’ve not yet tried Hill Country BBQ in DC because their prices offend me on a personal level.
