ParticipantI’d agree that the intersection should be enlarged a little after living with it for this long. You just can’t expect everyone to make that turn within their half of the path, even slowing down to a snail’s pace. I think the bumps in the trail are more of a hazard though. I had a puckering moment the first time I took my hand off the bars to signal my turn coming downhill from the bridge towards the intersection and had no idea there was a bump there.

ParticipantYou shouldn’t use Rain-X on coated plastics – anything with anti-scratch or anti-glare coatings. I would think most good glasses fall under that. I use a plastic-specific polish called Plexus left over from my (continuing but currently unfulfilled) obsession with cars. I’ve heard you can also use Pledge on plastics without damaging them.

ParticipantI put mine on solid but I don’t turn it off. I dim my front light if the trail is lit but going through NPS land I’ve got no choice but to go full supernova.

ParticipantI always ride up the sidewalk from the bridge until the mid-block crossing north of the intersection that takes you to Potomac park/Haines Point. I use the crosswalk to get on the street and ride from there up into the city on 15th St. Never had a problem with traffic doing that but I reverse commute, so your mileage may vary.

ParticipantI was riding CaBi home today and got yelled at by a tourist to “get off the sidewalk” while on the Rock Creek Parkway trail by the water. Sometimes I just want to hit people with rocks…

ParticipantSince the advent of countdown signals many states have changed their laws to reflect that pedestrians (or cyclists acting as pedestrians) may enter the intersection during the flashing red phase as long as they clear the intersection by the time the red signal becomes solid. Unfortunately Virginia is not one of those states so technically it is illegal to enter the intersection during the flashing red phase. No cop would write you for that though unless it’s flagrant (1 second remaining and you’re in the intersection for the opposing green).

ParticipantMy dog has a collar with blinking LEDs all around and a little LED sphere light that hooks on to the collar near his tags. I got the collar at Disney World (I know, but it was on sale!) although they sell similar products at REI, and the hanging light on his collar looks like this – http://www.ledlightbars.org/led-snowball-keychain.html. I’m going to get him one of these at REI when either of those products breaks – http://www.niteize.com/products/nite-dawg-led-dog-collar
We don’t run together anymore as he’s getting older but it helps since he’s black and we usually walk in the dark this time of year. Plus everyone loves the big goofy Christmas tree dog.

Wow, the tunnel is only 2.5 years old and the lighting is in that poor a condition?! I noticed the exposed wiring this weekend. What a shame.
If I had to guess I’d say it’s not natural wear-and-tear…

The folks at Eye Central in DC on Penn Ave sell Rudy Project eyewear, which I’ve never used or heard of, but might be worth checking out.
They have a product selector which you can filter for prescription lenses
Rudy Project is very popular among roadies and in Europe – it’s a good brand.

ParticipantDC is not allowed to mark yellow lines on Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and the Capitol – I think the Fine Arts Commission put their foot down on this one. It’s for the inauguration parades every four years. They take out the signal poles and all physical infrastructure on Penn in that stretch to allow the inauguration parade to pass.

Personally, I’m just waiting for someone to tell us about the importance of using Monster patch cables for improved sound.
I thought felt a great disturbance in the Force… this statement explains it. The phrase Monster Cable sends me into involuntary seizures.

ParticipantI resemble that remark.

my infamous glowing green frame (multiple 11″ LED strips)
I want to do this for this season – did you buy the setup or make it yourself?

If you look at the photo of Tim and Mark drafting, each of their rear hubs looks unusually large.
That’s what she said.
