The only reason I’ve even *heard* of Purcellville is because of the WO&D. The only reason I would *visit* Purcellville is because of the WO&D.
No bike, no visit – simple as that.
If I could somehow give money to the businesses there without letting any taxes go to Loudon County itself, I would.

ParticipantAs long as you’re sure you won’t want the heart rate, power, and cadence capabilities then the Edge 200 is ideal for you.
I have a Cateye Astrale 8 computer that’s been on about 12 bikes at this point, functions flawlessly, and hasn’t needed a battery replacement in 5 years. It requires running wires to the cadence and speed sensors, but they will always read correctly and you still get your metrics while riding on a trainer since both read from the rear wheel.
When I buy another computer it’ll be an Edge 500, but right now I use my clunky FR305 for everything. Nothing wrong with it other than the size and the attachment method to the bike leaves something to be desired.

ParticipantA little cooperation from all of our regional stakeholders on how to get cyclists safely from one side of the Potomac to the other. Give me one good river crossing (and no, the 14th St Bridge crossing isn’t good, but it’s much closer than the other three).

I really feel for those kids, growing up on the hard streets of Rosslyn.
They can’t even spell Rosslyn correctly. More panda drawings, fewer words next time.

ParticipantThat area always has some interesting stuff going on… check the street view from the last time they drove just up the road – http://goo.gl/Z8PZC

To the real topic – Honey Stinger Waffles are the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s most perfect creation on this Earth. I love those to the point that I’ll go do something outdoors as an excuse to eat another one because I feel bad just grabbing them out of the cupboard.

ParticipantI swear I saw Greg driving down 8th St SE the other day… shameful.

ParticipantThere are dozens of moms and kids at Eastern Market on a nice weekend, many of whom ride together to the market. I’ve seen every kid-on-bike solution you could imagine there from Xtracycles to trailers to those dutch baby seats that go behind the handlebars. No bakfiets yet, not there anyway. I think it would go over great. Plus the neighborhood can certainly afford it.

You didn’t think DC had hipsters? We’re overflowing with them. You must not hang out in the right neighborhoods. Come on up to Columbia Heights and hit the 11th Street bars (Wonderland, Room 11, Meridian Pint). It’s like wall-to-wall purple fixies with mismatched tires.
+1 – come on down to H Street NE sometime and have a look at the bike racks.

ParticipantR street is a great ride from the MBT to Big Bear Cafe. In fact, crossing Florida Ave is the only really nasty part of riding R street at all. It’s one of my regular crossing-the-city routes.
/edit – and yes, I salmon for a block or so.

ParticipantAs always I’m going to bail. Got an invite to go bowling at the Executive Office Building… I didn’t even know I could do that.

ParticipantFor a mix of durability and performance I like my Michelin Krylion Carbons, plus they should be on closeout since the new model is coming out (called Pro 4 Endurance). I’ve found them for around 30 bucks per tire. I’ve put enough miles on them to square off the tread and I’ve been very happy with the ride and adhesion. Gatorskins are the standard recommendation here but I can’t speak to them from personal experience. I think it’s worth the extra money for a durable tire since changing it on a ride is a pain in the arse.
