I don’t have tires yet, so I’m pretty much a blank slate. I don’t know anything about tubeless, but I assume with-tube is cheaper. I’m not worried about getting tires thin enough to be cross-legal for now- I think I’ll want extra width for everything else.

The shop recommended 40mm Clement Xplors

    (watching this thread)

I’ll be in the market for a gravel/touring/adventure bike soon. I also want something that won’t be too out of place in an occasional fun ‘cross race, and I’d like the experience of building a bike from a frame. I’ve been oggling the Wolverine for a while – I’d love to build one of those up as a 1x (not for any real reason other than I think they’re cool).

Unfortunately, I’m 5’11”, so probably a bit too tall for the 54 =(

I’ll be out of town this Saturday, but that hills route looks fun, so I’d love to join another week.

A repeat Duffy’s ride sounds great. I should be able to join on either day – 2/26 or 3/5

Thanks for organizing yesterday’s ride, Chuck! I had a great time and got to ride on a few roads/trails that I’ve never been on before.

I could probably join a coffee ride next Sunday. I haven’t been to either place, so I’ll be excited to try them.

We also talked a bit about a ride to Caboose Brewing in Vienna (http://www.caboosebrewing.com/) – I’d love to make that happen someday!

Hi All, I’m a database engineer (SQL Server), but I’ve done my share of web development (mostly in a MySQL/PHP stack, but I have a bit of experience in Python). I’m especially interested in data visualization, so this project is right up my alley!

Hozn, I have to say that you’ve done a great job with this site so far, and I’d be happy to do what I can to share some of the workload. I took a quick skim through the repository, and I’ll try to find some time over the next few weeks to setup a local dev environment and pick up an issue or two.

I’m still planning to join y’all starting from Javashack. You won’t have any trouble finding me – I’ll probably in full-fred mode with my bar mitts and Christmas lights:

Well I didn’t see Steve O’s post in time to add to the calendar, but I did go out bright (or rather dark) and early this morning!

    Here’s the result:

(PS – in case anybody is considering riding anywhere near the mall this week, I highly recommend avoiding it. My ride back to Arlington after this was a real struggle!)

I’m hoping to celebrate Obama’s last full day in office with a “Thanks Obama” ride early tomorrow morning.

Here’s the latest draft of the route that I’ve been working on: https://www.strava.com/routes/7424536

I tried to simplify it as much as I could, but It still involves going the wrong way on a few one-way streets. I think I stayed out of the restricted zones on (http://www.waba.org/blog/2017/01/biking-on-inauguration-weekend-2017/), with the exception of the area around the convention center, but I’m having a hard time finding any concrete description of those closures and what I can find makes it look like I’ll be fine. I’m still going to budget plenty of time in case I have trouble.

I live in Arlington, so I think I’ll ride the metro into the convention center and aim to start around 6am tomorrow (and haven’t quite figured out yet how I’ll get home afterwards). I’d love advice or company if anybody else is interested!

I’m likely in for the 28th, and the ride from Java Shack sounds great to me.

I’m not a racer, but I can hold my own on most group rides (and don’t mind getting dropped as long as I know where I’m going). I’ll be on my road bike.

Hi Everyone – I’m Chris J. This will be my first year participating in BAFS, and I’m looking forward to it forcing me to bike outside through the winter. You can find me way down towards the bottom of the leaderboard right now, but I’m hoping to make up for that with some longer weekend rides. I’m disappointed that I didn’t make it to the happy hour, so I look forward to meeting y’all in real life soon!

Just signed up! This is going to be my first ever bike race of any kind, so I’m equal parts excited and intimidated – I can’t wait!

I have family in Honolulu so I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years. Haven’t done much biking, but I’m happy to recommend other stuff to do if you’re interested!

I do see a ton of bikes on the highway that goes past Hanauma bay – it’s a beautiful road (and a big hill), but the drivers are too busy looking around for me to trust them there =) I also see a lot of bikes around the Kailua/Lanaikai area, and along the beaches on the north shore.

Hope you have a good trip!

Thanks for the advice – looks like I’ll be sticking to paved trails this weekend =)

Any thoughts on what the conditions on the Fairfax CCT might be like this weekend? Trying to get into Mountain Biking and thought the CCT would be a good beginner experience. (The only other trail I’ve ridden was Pimmit Run which was a bit too tough). I was hoping to ride from the Reston metro station to the Springfield metro station on Saturday morning via the CCT. With all this rain in the forecast, do I need to worry about the trail being too wet to ride or any stream crossings being unpassable? If so, I guess I’ll stick to the road bike that day.
