Rode MVT from LBJ to Four Mile Run at 6. Flint stones the bridges and shady areas. Lots of water in the trail. Riding on 32s. I’m choosing to telework tomorrow out of fear of refreeze. I already had a good spill on my ribs in January on black ice.

Sounds pretty nasty — that settles it: Metro it is…32s with file treads that I wanna run at CCWNS. Thanks for reminding me that if I don’t go with Plan A (Metro to Pent-house) or Plan B (Bike to Pent-house) then Plan C (Telework) may require a hip-pocket excuse for ending up in Crystal City after sunset in case co-workers show up!

Winds will be a factor tomorrow. The Weather Channel is forecasting 20-28mph winds throughout the day Wednesday
Could get a little sporty! Although my eastward leg along Eisenhower could be mighty quick. Rolling the dice with the bike on the Metro during Safe Track’ll be my Plan A…will wear my cleats just in case!
Edit: direction

Low 20s overnight: Re-freeze will make it icy. Personally I wouldn’t attempt it without studs and MTB tires but YMMV (e.g. Steve O)
Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of…trying to manage the risk of riding in (and my guilt over not riding more for BAFS lately) so I can roll in CCWNS #3. Hoping to hear “drains well, dry as popcorn”
! Looks like bringing the bike on the Blue Line may be the way to go. Thanks vvil!

ParticipantI plan on riding into work tomorrow but haven’t ridden along the MVT after a major precip/freeze event like last night’s. Any reports from tonight’s ride home? Any pointers for tomorrow morning?
Thanks!ChampionTier

Me too! In fact, I did a road ride in jeans on Saturday (while wearing MTB shoes and cleats and a helmet with a visor, I might add). I break ALL the rules. Except Rules #5, #9, and #43.
This comment–this whole thread–sings to me!
When I was 6 and hopped off the school bus, the first thing I did was get on my bike. Didn’t matter what I was wearing — nobody cared and it was the best part of the day! A few decades later, getting on the bike still tops the list (with the exception of hanging out with the fam). Granted, I care more about performance, safety, and comfort than I did way back then, but it’s always been about having fun and keeping a firm grip on liberty. This applies to training, commuting, even racing. Last December I had the fine honor of having my butt handed to me by a guy wearing jorts and a sleeveless jean jacket during Rustbucket Races in Norfolk — he performed fantastically and there was nobody there to rib him about his kit or anything else.
I think things like The Rules and http://www.reddit.com/r/bicyclingcirclejerk are well and good so long as we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Tonight at CCWNS I’ll be the guy wearing a mountain bike helmet, MTB shoes, and riding a gravel grinder and my grin will be just as broad as it was way back when I was a kid!ChampionTier

Me: Cycling along 4MR in Barcroft Bog, keeping an eye out for Skunk cabbage.
You: Jogger coming toward me in the left lane.
(Both of us come upon an Asian adult male and female walking slowly and gazing at the woods with a child in the middle holding hands in the left lane, walking towards you in your lane. I slow while I wait to see how you decide to go around them.)
You: Erupt into a profanity laced tirade in the presence of a four-year-old child because they are in the wrong lane, when you can easily pass them in the gravel.
Me: I wasn’t thrilled that they were walking the left lane, but do not think that offense in those circumstances in any way justified your outburst. I sure hope you aren’t also a cyclist. I’m sorry I was too awestruck by your behavior to say anything.I started cringing halfway through reading this; like watching a movie and knowing something bad’s gonna happen.

Keep in mind Sunday is the VASA ride.
Oh man, good point. So if someone did the All-Nighter on Fri/Sat they might be toast for Sunday’s VASA ride. This is my first year doing FS, so I don’t know if a lot of riders do VASA to cap off their particiaption in BAFS…if so, perhaps a long Saturday morning ride along this (or some other route) may be better? Either that or bump to Spring/Summer?

We’ll, this hasn’t been planned for this year, so…
Well then, I’ll throw this JPG file out there to get the discussion going. If interest sways the event in the direction of previous years then it’s all good. Otherwise, I’m open to suggestions on how to improve the attached V1. I’m a Springfielder so this route is a little Fairfax-heavy.

This is a thing. Could be a different thing than your thing, though. Plenty of room for ideas.
Ah, ^This^ sounds just as nice — thanks for pointing it out! I’ll hold off on breaking out my Lionel Richie songs for another time; maybe push for sometime in the Spring/Summer and post in General Discussion of WABF?
Cheers!

I’m going to go out tomorrow AM, if any of you want to join. I’ll probably do a down-and-up the CCT, although I might throw in some miles down to the waterfront and Hains Point. Let me know if you’d like to ride.
What do the rest of you think about 1/24 for a happy hour?
Might be in the area; not sure I’ll hit the CCT but I may see you at Hains Point. I’m down for the 24th — $3 pours at District Chophouse sounds great! Unless things get nutty in the office post-inauguration, I’ll make it happen.
Cheers,
