700c 8/9/10 speed Shimano? I may have one here… not anything high value, but functional.

I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that canti’s were a compromise brake until I sprung the $ for Avid Shorty Ultimates. That was an upgrade worth every penny. I think between those and the TRP’s it’s an even battle.

And yes, while you can change a non-canti bike to vBrakes understand that the pull ratios are different, so if you’re using drop bars you’re going through a convoluted adaptation process to get the pulls correct..

I still submit that my finding the contents of a bra bouncing down the W&OD last July 5th was far and above finding the bra itself :)

It’s amazing the things you see at 2-3am

Saw a notation in the FABB article about the bad signage at the I66 crossing. Does it actually go beyond Fair Lakes area? We rode it last year (on carbon road bikes – not again!) but had to bail at Fair Lakes because we didn’t see where it went further.

Unfortunately that could be anything from being watched for a concussion to being alive but spending your life drooling with a bib and a sippy cup. I for one hope he fully recovers.

It’s a Ritchey 26mm handlebar. Mine is a 2005. Yours must be newer. I wonder if the difference maker here is the 31.8 vs 26mm tube? Otherwise why would they have made them larger? I’m gonna have to go to my local shop to ask some questions and put my hands on some bars. I think a wider bar will make a nice difference too.

Yeah, mine was (sold it recently) a 2010 Cross Pro, Given your size I’d agree that you probably need something wider with a bit more strength to it based on what you have. Bigger bar will necessitate a new stem, but I doubt you have to buy toward the top of the price range to get something stout. 7 years makes a difference in technology for sure.

If you are shifting from “up on the bars” with your hybrid to a “down on the drops” position, you may want to consider how that might feel on your back, neck, shoulders, wrists, etc for the duration of your commute.

For the most part that transition is positive, as you have much more in the way of options with drops on hand and body positioning than you do in pretty much a fixed position on a hybrid

#1 – Is the flexing solely due to the handlebars or could it also be the stem?

What’s on it? My Cross Pro has a 31.6 Ritchey WCS bar, and while I’m nowhere near your size I loved the bars enough to put them on several other bikes.

It always seems like such a smarter idea AFTER the fact, doesn’t it? We’re so much smarter in retrospect.:)

I’ve done the same thing… looked at a layer in the car and said “Naaaaah, don’t need it” and then as my teeth are chattering three miles later it sure *seemed* like a good idea to leave it at the time!

Another thing that will work is waterless hand cleaner of the type you can pick up at Autozone ( Not the foo foo stuff from Bath and Body Works :) ). Unfortunately though once the garment has been washed and dried it’s about damn near impossible to get it out.

Man you kids are warm blooded… At 20 degrees I’m way beyond arm warmers and a shell. that’s balaclava, mittens and base/jersey/fleece/jacket layers for me. And earmuffs!
