The facility is not free but it is open to the public. More information is on their website.

Great info, thanks. Unfortunately for me I live in Winchester, so GMU is just a bit inconvenient. :(

Ok… I just have one thing to describe the ride this morning.
Let me see if I can find the right word…..

    COLD!!!!

    :)

If anyone finds a set of fingers and toes on the W&OD about Falls Church or so they’re mine! That’s about where they snapped off.
Left the house this am and the bank up the street was rocking 5 degrees displaying on the sign.

. It has to go above 35 by Tuesday.

But you’ll have to disappoint Sparky again if we get the mixed bag rain/snow currently in the forecast for Tues/Wed! :(

I keep telling myself that doing the Metro thing is too much like Wall-E……But I know my toes are going to disown me.

Nope.. The little canary yellow Ford Focus with the Yakima rack setup on the roof. I see the Mazda all the time too. There’s also a guy in a Camry that rides a Lemond that does the bi-modal out of Leesburg a lot.

I appreciate your help patrolling the deer situation. Can you do anything about the snakes?

LOL. Yeah, they get rather big don’t they? Passed one a couple months ago out by Hunter Mill. That rascal must have been 6-7 feet long.

    Oh, I hate snakes!!

Yeah, if I park at Reston you probably pass my car when you ride.. When I park there it’s in the lot by the trail right at 7-11.

Parked in the shopping center up by Performance today, since I had to pick up a chain on the way home.

No offense, but, uhhh, that’s dumb! ;)

Well, if I want to bike commute to work, and get a paycheck, not so much so :)

Besides, someone has to scare the deer out of the way for the rest of y’all :P

I’m on it from about 0610-0635, and I seemed to be in the tracks of another rider, so someone else was braving it with me!

You have to get up REALLY early to beat me to being first tracks on the trail :) I get on about 3:30am usually.

Hey CCrew – I’m enjoying the 32 so far. I can definitely notice the difference coming from a 27.

Thanks! Yeah, I’m also 50/34 compact on the front. My thought on the 34 instead of the 32 is that I would have the 32 available without fully cross-chaining it.. then if I couldn’t get my old legs moving I still had the 34 in reserve. Glad I went to an XT long cage RD, because a mid-cage RD definitely wouldn’t have had enough take-up.

I’m thinking running unloaded I’ll rarely make it out of the big ring in the front but thinking and doing are usually separate. I’m planning pulling the 38’s off of it and going 42-45mm on the tires, in which case the gearing may be perfect. It was bought for C&O type touring so it won’t break my heart if it’s a spin machine on pavement.

    Thanks!

How’s that 32 working out for you?

I had a 12-27 on the Salsa because that’s all I had when I built it, but got a 11-34 here today. Other than the OMG I think when looking at it when I’m so used to road cassettes, Haven’t had a chance to ride it until I pick up a longer chain.

I was looking for an almost MTB granny low for loaded touring pulling the trailer, definitely looks like it’ll do that, but wondered how the day-to-day was working out on yours.

    Thanks!

I thought these were interesting, seem to get mixed reviews. Have seen them in person, are really cool. http://www.monkeylectric.com/

Sweet bike. I love the GF’s. They don’t all agree with me due to the longer top tube design, but they’re just flat sexy to look at. Again, NICE bike.

Thermometer at the office reads 53 degrees. Kinda makes the studs on the mountain bike seem a bit silly. ;)

Dirt, you just know if you take them off we’ll get an ice storm!
