There should be a special place in hell for bike thieves….

Be sure to watch Craigslist. Hope you find it!

The only tricky thing is going to be when the temps drop. There was a lot of snowmelt on the trail, I suspect that things will get icy in places early in the morning and later in the evening.

Yeah, that’s how it was at 3:30 this morning. Generally passable but when you saw a spot that looked wet you could be assured it was glaze ice.

I’m thinking I might brave it. My neighborhood in Herndon thawed significantly last night. If it’s clear, the W&OD outta be at least passable. Yesterday was a big help.

Lots of black ice at 3:30am… Doable, but if it looks wet it was usually frozen.

Here’s another photo looking West towards the Route 28 Overpass from Ruritan Circle. I can see actual pavement!

Still looks like an exercise in good bike handling in order to keep in the grooves :) Thanks for the pic and update

Supposed to be warmer tomorrow and then again Monday.. might get rid of more of it. NVRPA’s stance of not clearing means the packing down it gets just makes it unusable longer it seems.

Dang – sorry about that CCrew. Were you in your TJ? I did that about a year ago in mine, luckily the damage was superficial so nowhere near as costly to pretty her back up.

Naa, was in my Focus. Wish I had been in the TJ, that thing wouldn’t have flinched :)

Ack.. Trade ya. Blasted a bambi @ 55mph on the way in this morning with the car on Rt7. Good couple thou $ damage to the car.

Got the car into the shop today. Estimate was $3770. I’d say you can see the cost savings of going car free was attractive, but the time I blew my shoulder hitting one on the bike the hospital and orthopedic surgeon and PT ran over $10k… :(

Oh man, POW! Glad you’re alright man! Sheet metal can be replaced.

Should’ve been on the bike, easier to swerve. :D

Actually, blasted them twice on the bike between Reston and Vienna. First one was a concussion and the second I had to have a shoulder surgically reconstructed. The deer then just got up, laughed, and kept going.

This one met his maker :)

I admire your trust in “the authorities”. However I suggest that if the authorities had the resources to prevent double parking, we would not be discussing the issue now. .

Oh, I dunno about that. 15th street, which I work on is a prime example. They certainly had no lack of parking enforcement, and now that 15th is a bike lane on one side they now have 50% less work.

I’m sure that they more than pay their salaries in income brought in.

FABB Reported yesterday that NVRPA has purchased a snowblower and plans to use it to clear the W&OD. They won’t get it until Mid Feb so who knows if it will be in action this year. Great news, though. http://cot.ag/hwB0HY

Good news.. But the line: “They will allow a few days after the snowfall to provide skiers or snowshoe users time to use the trail.” usually means that the trail is by then a sheet of ice, and the snowblower is about worthless. Getting the bulk of the mess helps I guess though, and it’s better than nothing.

Sorry about that. After riding it this morning, I thought I hit the description pretty well. I think Custis was a little more slushy than W&OD was, but it wasn’t that much different. None of these rides are easy.

Naa, no harm, you called it pretty much on the money. Hence the smiley!

    That’s cool.

I don’t think Fairfax issues vehicle decals any more. They have other ways of getting you.

Do they do the same as Frederick County does and charge you for the sticker they don’t give you? :-)
