ParticipantHmm. I can think of ways to avoid parts of it, but are you looking to avoid the Custis altogether?
Jumping off on Veitch, to Wilson, to Fairfax and jump back on the Custis at Glebe takes out all the rollers and is all set up with bike lanes.

They’re really not going to realign the trail? A sharp turn to enter and exit? Jumping jesus on a pogo stick, I’m tired of all of the half-assed engineering design (maybe it was a high-school engineering project?) that goes into trail facilities.
Nope. Make it worse on the east side of the bridge rather than resurface the trail they paved a 18″ wide strip to widen it slightly so it was a bit less of a transition. So now you have a nice seam/line from old to new pavement that runs in the direction of travel to boot.
Whoever signed off on this one should be dragged out there and horsewhipped.

ParticipantI rode across it at 3am this morning. I call firsts!!! LOL

ParticipantThey were paving the approaches into the new bridge today and looking like they were putting some finishing touches on. I wouldn’t give it much longer before it’s open. About time, because the old bridge is a dropoff on either side now..

How in the hell did I miss that? Or was that the one originally posted for $500 that I figured had to be stolen… not that I was following CL like I do almost every day. Great find.
The one that posted for $500 was a BMC Virus 2.0 hardtail, and that one was waaaaaay sketchy. That guy was selling that one and didn’t know anything about it and I steered way clear. This one popped up for $1k, and then went to $700 a day later so I lowballed him. Had all the paperwork where he bought it from Competitive Cyclist this time last year for $1500 on closeout. MSRP is close to $3k.. Doesn’t have a blemish on it, looks like it was ridden once or twice on a dusty road.

Nice TT frame, does it have a powertap? Ever get blown around with those deep wheels?
No powertap. I’ve pretty much given that bike to the son these days since after two shoulder surgeries I have issues getting into enough of a tuck or even down on the aerobars without agony. He’s managed to make his old man look like a garden slug riding it… He qualified for USAT Team USA in short course duathalon on it and runs 28-30mph bike splits so I let him have at it. And yeah, it’s pretty brutal in a crosswind, but my god does it fly if it’s not windy.

Good find.
Do you get more square footage for your $ in Winchester?
I did when we bought the house, which was in 1999. 4200 sq feet/4br/3ba 2 car garage and we paid $157k for it. County now claims it’s worth $460k.. at least that’s what they’re taxing me on it now. It was however bought from a builder that was going under and we had to dump another $30k into it immediately to finish it.
Times have changed though, and Winchester has become more of a bedroom community to DC and prices went up accordingly and haven’t seemed to come down. LOTS of foreclosures though. Next door neighbors just gave up theirs, which means houses on each side of me have been foreclosed on.
When we were looking comparable houses in Fairfax area were $5-600k which is why I decided to eat the commute.

I counted nine, but I seem to recall that you have more than that…
Very nice. You’re either going to get some of the rest of us in trouble or you’re going to serve as cover.I think the count is now 15 with one more on the way….. :p Going to let go of two to thin the herd tho.

ParticipantTopeak Road Morph is about as good as it gets for inexpensive and able to do high pressure for a frame pump. The Serfas that Greenbelt listed is also good. Similar designs.
For a shop level pump I have a Joe Blow Sport (cheap but effective) and a Specialized Air Force ($$$). The Specialized is the “go to” pump but either do high pressure well, and I have a bike that takes 160lbs (race tubulars)
I carry a Genuine Innovations pump that also does CO2 when I’m riding.

Fairfax has been pretty good. I had a few instances where they sent a squad to the house to take a statement, then went and “talked to” the person.
Agreed – Fairfax is very good. Have a co-worker that actually filmed a road rage incident and they used it to charge the woman.
