So you are okay if a parent brings their kids onto the bike path and just lets them run around in both lanes?
I expect it to happen and I deal with it accordingly. Last I checked, it’s not MY path

How does the fact that are MUTs change anything? You are essentially saying parents should allow their kids to run around on a trail where bikes are. No difference whatsoever. A trail where bikes are present is a trail where bikes are present – they aren’t a playground. Thanks for ignoring my stronger assertions, I’m glad I took out the part about forced sterilization:)
If you look at the MUT’s though, cyclists are at the bottom of the pecking order for right of way. It’s pedestrians, then horses, then us. I don’t have an issue with sharing trails. My issue comes in when the “it’s my trail I have the right of way” mentality kicks in.

ParticipantOnly a year? I thought you were an old hat at this!
Congrats!! Can’t say I’ll be there as we’re looking at doing the Torrey Brown/Heritage trail out of Baltimore in the morning, but will keep it in mind. After all, you’re buying @ Carolina Brothers
What time were you thinking of starting?

ParticipantLook at the Zoic MTB shorts. More like cargo pants with a liner that’s essentially like a boxer brief with a chamois.

ParticipantChocolate milk is the best recovery drink there is. Congrats on the ride. Personally I have yet to find a saddle that’s 100% comfortable after about 30-40 miles.

Just need to get an early start.
I have a riding partner who’s idea of early is 11am
Definitely a nice ride. Have fun!

Yup, someone will look at it.
I was wondering why I hadn’t seen it because I ride into Rosslyn every day. I usually turn off at Pierce though…
Thank you kind sir.. I thought the picture this morning would be compelling evidence…. The ducks were occupied elsewhere however..

You can give me a specific location where this is? Map even a google maps pinpoint?
I’ll pass it along to my contacts…
It’s actually Clarendon Blvd, not Wilson. It’s between N Ode and N Oak, in front of the new building under construction on that block. Probably a utility hookup that’s in process.
Tell them I’m painting a skull and crossbones in the bike lane if it stays!
You can tell your contacts that I ran it to my contacts at the Post…

God god. A picture is worth a thousands words. It’s as if they intentionally created a booby trap. Lawsuit anyone?
Did you contact the “proper authorities”?
You should send this photo to Dr. Gridlock of the Wash Post since he has a pro-car bias. Would be nice for him to see (and post on his blog) what we cyclists are up against on a daily basis and why we often have to take the lane.
Grrrrr…..
Tried Arlington, this is what I get…
“I will be out of the office beginning June 23rd and returning to work on July 20th If this is an emergency please contact 703.228.6555”
Lemme find the ol Dr’s email address now :p

You’re looking at what, about a 45 mile round trip depending on where you start in Ashburn?
More like 55. I wouldn’t want to do that on a mountain bike with any regularity.

I did noticed some ramp design. I dont want to say 100% because of how unfamiliar I am with troubleshooting BUT when I shift into those gears there is excessive noise. The noise sounds like the chain and teeth aren’t agreeing with each other and it only happens when that part of the cassette is in the chain.
It’s possible to be tweaked, but given how you said you think you may have done it it sounds a bit unlikely. I’m wondering if it’s not just a trim/adjustment issue.
I will say that if you CAN bend it back with a pair of needlenose you’ve got bigger issues. Cassettes are fairly stout. They pretty much have to take a good whack.

CCrew, just for your added consideration and god knows I’m not trying to tell you how to ride, that would be an exercise in futility
, but the exercises are done at slow speed. It’s harder to do them using the clipless system, I did but it was harder. And I was new on the bike, things like looking over my shoulder and maintaining a straight line seemed like mysterious skills known only to Bike People. A year later I’m looking over my shoulder, pulling up my shorts, and playing with my water bottle all at the same time. You’d be fine with your regular bike.

Thanks. I signed up, don’t know if I’ll make it or not. Had a bit of a senior moment leaving the house this am and rode my full suspension BMC mountain bike in this am. May be a bit overkill for the class
If not it’s $10 to a good cause regardless.
And you can freely tell me how to ride, or even where to go anytime :p

Thank you for being a gentleman and not taking pictures. Or at the very least, not posting any.

ParticipantShould title this thread “How to kill a cyclist 101”.. Or better yet run it up the flagpole and see how far it flies. Here’s the spot..
CCrew
ParticipantAre you 100% sure it’s a bend? Sometimes the ramp design of cassette sprockets make them look as if they’re wrong, when in reality they’re correct.
