Wow. Reading how it happened really jacked my heartrate up. I don’t know how you kept your wits about you. So glad you got out okay.

Teach me how to do that for my PowerBook, please!

Best free solution for a Mac is here: http://preyproject.com/

    Cheap one is here: http://hiddenapp.com/

Mine’s using an enterprise version (Computrace) tied to our corporate systems that’s fairly pricey. Fortunately i can piggyback my personal mac on the corporate account or I don’t think I’d want to spend the $$

Hey, do you need a ride back to your car this afternoon? Let me know.

Thanks, but I’m good. I’m parked at the Sunset Hills P&R today, I can metro to WFC and pick up one of the buses from there. It makes for a solid “Plan B”

Really, really appreciate the offer though.

    Very glad you weren’t shot.
Could you please give us as detailed a physical description as possible of the two assailants?
    Thanks.

About 9mm in diameter is my most vivid recollection. :)

African american, very late teens/early 20s. One approx 6′ , one with the gun about 5’8″. Both medium build for height. Short hair, gunman wearing jammers, black plain T shirt and a white NY hat (stuck because what’s with the leaving the price tags on them?)

Mode of operation is they split apart and force you down the middle. Taller one tried a roundhouse and didn’t have such good aim and caught my helmet ( I hope that frigging hurt!) but I was in avoidance mode and it caused me to turn into the wall. Had I been able to extricate fast enough I’d have been out of there. Had just come to a stop when I had a gun to my face. I saw it coming, albeit too late to bail. This makes the second time in the same area, in the same timeframe with the same MO. First time I saw it earlier and aimed right for the bigger one and they backed off. That was several months ago. Can’t say if it was the same pair.

Was over inside of 60 seconds. Basically strip and run.

Thanks guys. I’m fine. Pissed more than anything. All material stuff.

Already ordered a new Redline Conquest Pro frameset to replace my Fuji Cross, will just strip it out and transfer all the bits.

My whole team here just sitting hoping for my Macbook to call home :)

That’s horrible! Was this on the MBT?

Coming across the Key Bridge at 4am this morning. On the short funnel between Whitehurst and the brick pavers at the end of the bridge.

    Nice ride!

Got 30’ish in on Saturday, was hot but not as bad as I expected. Biggest mistake I made was riding my Vaya thinking I was going to hang with my riding partners road bike. I ended up working harder and still going slow. That’ll teach me to bring a spork to a knife fight. :)

Boo. They send a code for a free pizza… that’s not valid until September 5th.

The sad thing is I was pouring the water down my back so as not to make a spectacle of myself pouring it down my front.
Lesson learned: Just go for the whole spectacle thing.

You know how this works, right? :)

When I compare my commute to a friend’s commute, From door to desk it takes me about 10 minutes longer to go by bike… That includes taking a shower and changing clothes. My ride is about 16 miles. It is less by car.

I have a co-worker that uses the Loudoun buses to get downtown. Many days we leave at the same time. Often I can bike to Reston, get the bike on the car, get on the toll road and be at the Greenway toll plaza at the same time as his bus.

    But I got exercise :)

All things considered, for a $20 purchase, they are worth it.

Keep your eye out at end of season when Performance does their blowout warehouse sales. I picked up like 5 of the Headsweats for $2-$3 a piece in summer and winter weights.

I have an UnderArmour Cold Gear hood/balaclava that is indispensable in the winter. That’s it, let’s think COLD today! :)

I have one with the tail you speak of. Don’t really see a difference either.

I’ve had it happen with nylon zippers. I have a jersey that’s a bear to unzip when temps get high. I think it’s related to cheap zippers though.

Depends on what version you’re running.

Keep in mind guys that it’s easy to go add-on happy with vBulletin, but when the next upgrade comes around you stand a chance of having to touch all those add-ins all over again. There’s a definite tradeoff between trying to supply additional functionality and the effort that it takes to maintain the system.

In the end it’s all PHP though, if you’re comfortable with the code then it’s not overly hard. I get Community Server as my nightmare, makes vBulletin seem positively stunning.

I think a Headsweats bandana under my helmet really keeps things cool as well. This afternoon on the way home, I may just go without my shirt.

I’ll second the headsweats, I have one of their skullcaps that I swear by. Between keeping the sweat out of my eyes it seems to make a more effective radiator.

I plan on buzzing my already bald head today too. Amazing how much of a difference that makes.
