Thanks Joe. Have seen some formatting quirks but just chalked it up to using IE9 :)

CCrew you might as well be talking gibberish, and that’s a reflection on me not you, FFX County Parkway? Oh that sounds delightful. I can’t picture it.

Fairfax County Parkway. It’s the arch bridge you go over headed west out of Reston. Headed west there’s a trail spur off the W&OD on the right just before the bridge. That’s roughly the halfway point, you can go north/south from there. Not an overly bad ride. North is newer/better condition than south. Only a days ride given your sense of direction :)

Hmm does it add an auxillary battery as part of the iDash or does it rely on the internal battery? You’re right, GPS eats batteries like no tomorrow. If it relies on the internal only it’s curtains for you as battery swap is an Apple store thing.

It’s pretty much the reason I went Garmin. If the bike crashes, I don’t have to worry if the phone survived, and if the gps goes dead, oh well, just don’t have the tracking info.

As to the crash part, still possible to lose one even if it’s not on the bike, but then it’s the detach from bike thing to go inside someplace scenario too.

I’m digging that pink. I’d have no qualms riding that.

I’m curious how well it’ll be visible in the sun. I dumped my iPhone for just that reason. It’s like that Kindle/iPad commercial :)

    Pls keep us updated.

There’s one south of the other GMU off 234 that’s not half bad. Runs along Prince William Forest Park.. It’s not a W&OD but it’s enough to get your legs working if you like hills.

There’ also FFX County Parkway, that one runs from Rt 7 all the way to Fair Lakes.

    Just a FYI.

I’m still hoping the police catch these guys because they are likely to commit more violent crimes in the future. Two less thugs out on the street will make life a little better for the rest of us.

Oh, I’m with you on this. And I’ve got my internal security folks pressuring MPD. They tend to get results :p

You may wish to check area pawn shops; they may have been looking for quick cash.

According to MPD anything pawned at a pawn shop by law has to be entered into a database within 48 hours that police have access to and any item has to be held for two weeks also.. Since I have the serial and description it will generate a cross match automatically.

I actually just realized why it hasn’t popped up. I had run the battery about stone dead, and there was no power adapter with the laptop. It was an “ah ha” moment sitting here at my desk (Yes, I’m at work at 5am) when I looked over and saw the mag connector.

I’ve already bought a new machine, and a new frame for the bike. It’s just the principle of the thing now.

Aww it had too much lateral runout for the shop to straighten it.

I did get a good deal on a Mavic Aksium replacement. Seems a little stronger (read as heavy) but hopefully it will fare better lugging my fat a*s around.

Aksiums are frigging bulletproof. Had a set on my Cross bike for a while. Curbs, offroad, still were as true as the day they were new 5k miles later.

Any luck on tracking down your MacBook? Really surprising if they haven’t tried to get on the internet by now. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Nothing. Guess at this point is that it’ll pop up with the new owner once it’s sold. I’m patient. Probably no internet at the crack house :)

Maybe one of those Go Pro cameras might have helped with identification? But maybe they don’t work so well in the dark.

I actually own one. They bring the suck in the dark. I run with a Dinotte on my helmet for light, and the only way I could see the GoPro being effective is being in the same lighted are, ie: also attached to the helmet. I’m not sure my neck is strong enough for all that :)

Just out of curiosity – what was MPD’s response like? You did report this right?

I think I’d best describe the response as apathetic.

In retrospect – and no, the anger hasn’t worn off. Nor have they logged an active internet connection. It’ll pop to the surface, I’m sure of it.

I really don’t think it was a biking issue. Outcome would have probably been the same had I been a pedestrian. It was 4am on an urban street. The only people out are the people working and the riffraff. Our paths just crossed. Expensive lesson, but in the grand scheme of things it was just “things”. They can be replaced.

New frame is already enroute. Stripping the ultegra off the Fuji Cross Pro and putting all the parts on a Redline Conquest Pro frame.
