What really stews my prunes is when helmet-mount dudes give me the 10 feet or less stare down – totally unnecessary.
Oh, I’ll agree. In the rare case I do see an oncoming rider I palm my handlebar light and look right and down at the trail edge so my helmet doesn’t nail them. I’m usually headed home in the afternoon, so it’s the 2:30am ride that I go all supernova for.
Ninja’s are fair game though… I light em up!

Sounds like you were behind Dirt?
Or me. I run my Dinotte on flash from the moment I get on the bike until I get off. If it annoys you you’re more than welcome to pass?

I almost had the exact same thing happen to me on the WO&D near Smiths Switch. They were running scared at dark on the gravel road at about 25 MPH. When the trails crossed, they came flying across and I missed them by 5′.
I’ve got the surgery scars and the trashed Gary Fisher frame to prove that that hurts. I’ve broadsided two in 4 years of commuting on the W&OD.

ParticipantYeah, I got bit by the contributory negligence dealio about 10 years ago when I got hit in the butt by a tractor trailer on 66. I had legally lane changed just before he failed to apply his brakes. He got the ticket too, but his insurance played the CN card. Mine said that it wasn’t unusual especially dealing with commercial vehicles….
We sued and won, but what a PITA.

I thought trails were closed to all but cyclists with appropriate lights between dusk and dawn.
Try closed completely between dusk and dawn. At least that’s what the cops keep telling me.

How many cyclists do you see on your morning ride? (I thought your rode in early?) At 0300, I see maybe one a week and that won’t change until the temperature drops down below 30.
Morning? Zero since the ninja that I used to see around Gallows every morning musta gotten splattered. Gawd knows I wanted to do it.
Afternoons have been pretty much a ghost town, maybe 2-3 most days vs too many to count.

ParticipantGoogle sucked at first for bike directions. From what friends there have told me getting accurate GIS data for MUP’s was a nitemare.
