You can ride on the east side of the Long Bridge park, but the connection down to Long Bridge Drive on the west side is a bit rough. If you try and exit the park on the north, you have to cross over dirt and broken asphalt to get onto Long Bridge Drive. There are tight ramps to get into the parking lot that would give you access to Long Bridge Drive. Long Bridge Drive is still a work in progress, but is improved from a few months ago. Heading north on Long Bridge Drive, the road is rough, but passable. Once you pass under the 395 underpass, the road smooths out.

Hey, Maryland people: Would that trail by BWI to Annapolis be helpful here? I’ve done a brick (run/ride) on the loop part and on part of the out-to-Annapolis part and IIRC it was lovely.

I think you might be referring to the Baltimore and Anapolis Trail. My wife and I did the ride earlier this summer. It is nicely shaded, the riders on the trail were very polite, calling out passes and slowing down when passing. It is relatively flat with just a few short climbs. Park headquarters has restrooms and there are places to eat along the way. There is an easy connection to the BWI trail. The trail is 13.3 miles in length.

The Chambliss Street bridge is now open! The bridge allows you to cross Holmes Run and avoid a really bad stretch of the Holmes Run Trail, including a fair weather crossing.

The presentation does not include any methodology or explanation for the use of the word “average”. The presentation does note that 17 houses along this stretch of King actually face North View Terrace. Presentation also notes that the “adjacent neighborhood has under utilized parking for the displaced vehicles”.

Based on the information on the King Street project page, it seems as if the residents and civic associations have been involved in the development of this design.

According to the presentation made to the Traffic and Parking Board on July 22, 2013, there will be a total of 37 parking spaces removed on the east side of King Street, “on Average, less than 3 are being utilized”.

One nice thing about both the old and new mounts is you can easily pivot the light when somebody is coming from the opposite direction. I have found that to be easier than covering the light with my hand.

wait, what held it on before? fairy dust and good wishes?

Not quite. The bottom end slides over the top end. Each end has a serrated edge that then holds the pieces together. The big problem with the mount was getting it tight enough on the handlebar.

The new mounts have a screw tightener. I wrote NiteRider and told them I really liked their lights but the mounts sucked and they sent me a new mount.

I contacted NiteRider and just got the new mount for my MiNewt. A much improved mount! The new mount is on the right.

How’s the repaving going? Looked like there was some base layer down last week.

Long Bridge Drive today – looking towards the south. Curbs have been installed on both sides, paving is down on the west side and sidewalks have been installed on the east side. Just to the north of the photo the road is still rough in spots.

And now, the rest of the story.

Before leaving work on Tuesday, I decided to add some air to my front tire. Using a floor pump that I had at the office, I quickly got the front tire up to 80 psi and was ready to roll. Unfortunately, I got all of a mile from work (and the nearby Pentagon City Hudson Trail Outfitters) when my front tire went flat. Apparently, I had a slow leak that was exacerbated by the extra air I had added. Having used up my spare tube and last patch in the morning, my only recourse was to turn around and head back to HTO to purchase a new tube. I pumped up the front tire and held my breath that I could make it make to the store. As luck would have it, I did just make it to the store.:D A new tube was purchased and I quickly changed the tire. My lesson from this little exercise is to carry a new tube, as my spare and to ensure an adequate supply of patches to make repairs on the road. The tube that bedeviled has been consigned to my bag of tubes to recycle.

I haven’t noticed any significant progress on the project nor seen anyone working on this for the past week. This is week three of a project that I was told was going to take four weeks to complete. I should note that the “desirees” appear to have completed their restructuring of the fence and have marked out their new trail through the project site.
