ParticipantIn years past I would ride almost every, if not every day because that first mile was so distinct in terms of bonus. Now it just seems somewhat diluted by all the other bonus points up through 10 miles, so in some ways it seems less significant and / or motivating now. My thought (probably misguided) being that unless I do that full 10, or at least 4 or 5, it really isn’t keeping pace with others out there (competition wise, that is, I will still do short rides if for other reasons), so will just take the day off. My math might be off, and my thinking probably certainly so, but that has been the way I have viewed it, and my number of ride-days are well short of years past.

ParticipantAt the risk of starting an argument completely unrelated to tech, I was wondering if Strava activities marked as “E-Bike Ride” would be picked up by the Freezing saddles leader board, or instead ignored as if it were any activity than a “Ride” (i.e., treated the same way as a Run, Swim, etc.).

ParticipantSorry I couldn’t make it last night, but I like what I am hearing about brewery, coffee and shop rides. I was on the team last year led by Brian at Alexandria Conte’s, so looks like another year riding with that shop. Good to hear! I look forward to meeting everybody.

District Hardware and Bike which has been at the Wharf in DC the last two years will be closed permanently after today. https://wtop.com/dc/2019/11/after-48-years-in-dc-district-hardware-and-bike-to-close-permanently/
I was extremely surprised when they first announced their move to the Wharf given their background being in Dupont (I think where Le Pain Quotidien is now) and then Foggy Bottom. Seemed quite ambitious, somewhat out of character given their previous shop and mechanics. They were great, especially with older bikes. For me, they basically disappeared with their move to the Wharf, but it sounds like it became a decent cafe for a while.

ParticipantThere seems to have been another one, and apparently did not end too well for the driver:

ParticipantIt seems this may finally be happening (Rock Creek Trail Rehabilitation from M St. up to the Zoo). Construction advertised on 4/19, bids due 5/20, and then likely to start 6+ months after that:

I think that is why I just now finally noticed their e-bikes. Maybe those same four on my way in Alexandria towards 4MR, seemingly strategically placed right next to a garbage can to block the most space!

ParticipantI have recently come across Lime e-bikes. I thought they had shifted exclusively to scooters, but I guess maybe were just swapping out the standard bicycles.

ParticipantComing from the south on the MVT I tried taking the lane into DC this morning, as a few others had suggested, and think it may be the fastest, easiest and safest option. I also then avoid the stairs on 14th St Bridge until that detour is finished.
I am not sure, however, that one of the lanes would be as convenient in the evenings out to Virginia.

…right, rotating kids between the trailer and a little bike for recovery to maximize distance, and packing them with hand warmers. But then the optimization becomes distance achieved before social services show up at your door

ParticipantThis is starting to get interesting now. More incentive to lighten trailer weight a bit and get the other kid(s) earning some #withkids points, though lose a few route options to avoid roads with less margin of error for wobbly young riders by my side. Game now becomes an optimization problem
If more people were active in this category, it might make for an interesting general classification (#kidical and #withkids), versus specialist riders….

ParticipantGlad I saw this post yesterday. Dusted off the trailer this afternoon, and finally got my first #kidical points in three years of doing BAFS!

ParticipantVery nice across Memorial Bridge pretty much all the way to Pentagon and then Boundary Channel Drive (actually, I was going the opposite direction). I wonder if NPS are using some sort of snow removal machine since it looked like tire tracks along the edge of the path. Such a great improvement over years past.

ParticipantThey are both good names, and original. I give a slight edge to Cyclepaths for being the shorter of the two.
