ParticipantThis the mid-beam of my Nite Rider 500 on my commute home this evening on an unlit section of the WOD with Jupiter converging with Venus behind cloudy skies. It has a rechargeable battery with a macro USB port. I bought it on sale 2 years ago at Performance Bike and it has been flawless. It has hi, lo, mid and intermittent settings. A single charge lasts me the whole week, and often longer.

Huey and the News rocked the Warner Theater last night! And the Foldie weathered the storm to get me there!!

Any idea if the owner has tried checking it as baggage on a plane or shipping via UPS? Guessing on the box dimensions needed, UPS is quoting me >$200 to send via ground to CA one way. Ouch.
For $250, you can just buy the bike and have it shipped to your destination!

Yes, the bike came with a soft carrying case and has done one cross country flight and back (on SW Airlines) without any hassles. That said, it’s heavy to lug around, so I would wheel it like a stroller and then bag it at the last possible moment, on the outbound. I would likewise take it out of the bag upon arrival at the luggage belt, and wheel it out of the airport. If it was a really big terminal, I’d be tempted to ride it inside the airport!

Boomer,
Can you show us a pic of it folded up? This bike retails for only about $350. Does it feel like a relatively well designed bike? I’m asking because I’ve been thinking about buying a foldie for when I travel on vacation but can’t justify a Brompton for 1-2 trips a year.
I’m super glad you have found a way to get around and have fun at the same time. Being incapacitated really sucks.
Thanks.
It is a very well designed bike. The more I use it, the more I appreciate how good the design is. I believe that the owner snagged it on sale, online, for about $250.

Here’s a pic of the Foldie completely broken down, napping, after a beer:
This is how we roll on MetroRail. I leave the handlebars up, and can roll it like a stroller, without having to pick it up (unless the Metro escalators or elevators are out of service) :

Too bad we couldn’t get all those folks riding on Cabis to log their miles. We would blow everyone out of the water if we could do that. Maybe the Cabi folks should give a Garmin to each person who signs up for a new account.
I ride Cabi a lot and track my millage on my phone using the Strava App.

ParticipantI still can’t ride due to bum leg, but may join up with all for the post-ride HH @ Georgetown Waterfront. Happy Father’s Day!

ParticipantI recently hurt my leg and had to give up riding my road bikes for awhile. I’ve had a hard time even walking just one city block lately. However, a friend lent me a folding bicycle and it has literally transformed my life. I find that I can get just about anywhere on it, and when needed, fold it up and wheel it on/off MetroRail or in/out of a car trunk. I now have a new found respect for foldies, and mobility for the handicapped.
