    Yes. I’m inspired.

Currently tracking at about 80 ft. / mile. Bigger question is if I can get to 29,029 by 3/11.

I love TJ’s. We lived in Santa Monica in the late 90’s and was a prerequisite when moving to Silver Spring. The tour/camping sounds like a blast, just need to convince the wife & kids, which is no small task.

    Hello everyone!

Glad to be in such a great group and part of Freezing Saddles ’18.

My name is Brian Miller, I’ve lived in Silver Spring for the past 10 years. I’m normally a warm-weather rider, but saw this club pop-up on Strava and thought it’d give me a nudge to get out in the cooler months.

I work in the city, and occasionally commuted to work until August ’16 when I had an accident- so I mostly stay up in the ‘burbs and ride solo. However, I’d def. come in to the city on a non-rush hour ride with a group if an opportunity arises.

I’m a father of two girls, ages 6 and 8, who occupy a lot of my time. Since I don’t commute, I end up doing most rides after they’ve gone to bed or on the weekends.

I’m primarily a road-guy, but was fortunate enough to pickup a great beater mtn. bike and I’ve been riding that (disc-brakes!) since this started and loving it (again, disc-brakes!).

I can’t commit to tons of miles, so my strategy for the ‘Penguins is to ride daily and get respectable mileage in on the weekends.

I enjoyed meeting Kitty Josh last night and hope to get the opportunity to meet the rest of you at some point during the challenge. Go team!

    Hi everyone,
Here are the details for the Freezing Saddles Welcome Happy Hour, the event at which we meet our teammates and make plans for a sensational 2018 season!

    Date: Wednesday, January 10, 2018.
Time: 6 pm onwards. We will plan on a short welcome presentation at about 7 pm. We’ve reserved the space until midnight.
Location: Bier Baron Tavern, located at 1523 22nd St NW, Washington, DC (between P and Q Streets on the east side of the street)…this is near Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom in DC. The room has audio-visual capacity including a screen, a juke box, a sound system (we can hook up an iphone or other gadgets), projector, etc.
Cover charge (suggested cash donation): $10 per person…all of this will cover food, as Bier Baron has waived its normal rental fees. They will card us at the front door, where we’ll show our IDs (it’s a tavern) and pay the $10 for food.
Food: We’ve asked the venue to stagger the food in batches rather than putting it all out at 6 pm. The buffet of finger food will include soft pretzels, quesadillas, and falafel sandwiches.
Beer: Bier Baron sells 24 beers on draft, and up ‘til 7 pm there’s a $1 discount on the draft beers (the standard price is $5 to $9 for most types). They also sell 600 types of beer in bottles, and they have sodas and juices as well. There’s a full menu of dinner food for those who wish a heartier meal.
Children: If you’re not able to park your little ones with a friend or a babysitter, you can bring them along….kids are welcome until 9 pm.
Bike Parking: Bring a U-lock and any other locks you’ve got, ‘cause we will be parking our bikes on the street. Do not park INSIDE the neighbor’s garden – please keep your bicycle on the outer part of the railing if you lock up to any private enclosures. Last winter we did an extensive search for bike parking facilities in the area, but without much luck. However, there are 15 racks between Bier Baron and Dupont Circle, which will hold about 70 bikes, plus assorted poles and other things to latch onto. There is also Capital Bikeshare, assuming you can find a space in which to dock your bike, and now there are multiple brands of dock-less bikes as well. Bier Baron is located near the Dupont Circle Metro, if you opt to take transit instead. If you’ve got a folding bike or a bicycle of the sort that would leave the rest of us drooling, or if you forget to bring your lock, the Bier Baron has graciously offered for you to bring your bicycle into the bar. There is only limited space so please send me a PM (private message) in advance, if possible.
RSVPs: We are making a list of likely attendees so as to generate an approximate head count for food.
Please reply on this thread if you’d like to join in the fun (and please indicate the number if you’ll be bringing friends/family). All are welcome.

    Looking forward.
w&w on behalf of your hardworking FS social committee

Trying out how to post. I was blocked for some reason. Someone must know my dark secrets. I do love dogs and other people’s puppies.

I’m figuring out how to post while also trying to save my FS18 registration. I guess the first one didn’t go thru. I got a pair of toe warmers for xmas so I could stop wrapping my feet in aluminum foil, somehow the Mrs. didn’t think that was an attractive look…

Looking forward to doing this. Hope this one works!

    Oh, and I like dogs.
