I probably just need to invest in a battery pack for my Garmin 1000. I admit I have not looked into that at all, buy if I could get something that I can hook up to the Go Pro mount under my k-edge out-front mount, that would be sweet …. Time to do some research!
Probably just time to upgrade to the 1030 and get the integrated battery pack. It’s only a $730 outlay.

If you don’t do these bike rides/social events, do other ones. Invite us. Or don’t. But do.
You could ditch work after Saturday Hills and ride out to Amouri.

Yeah, I did see that, but when I looked into it I wrote it off because it was non-competitive, but more importantly it was self-supported. I kinda like paying to have places to get water and nutrition refills, course marking, etc. (My Garmin won’t last long enough w/ nav running for 200k, for one thing.)
Well it turns out I’m non-competitive too, so…:p As far as nav is concerned, are you trying to keep things minimal, so no battery packs and such?
Thanks for starting this thread though. I had no idea there were so many options out there.

Come by anyway. Many hands make the work light according to Confucius. I think we’ll try to meet up at Colada afterwards.

I wish I saw this earlier! I’ll note this for the future though. I wasn’t sure if it was a hard cap.

ParticipantStrong work!

ParticipantCaptain Chuxtr has an ETA of 11-ish at Colada Shop (1405 T St NW). That’s only 2.5 miles away if you’d like another option after cleanup.
Edit: Well shoot, it looks like cleanup registration is at capacity. That’s a great problem to have though!

ParticipantI managed to “infiltrate” team 20 at Tryst this morning. Had a lovely breakfast burrito.
Looks like some good options for rides tomorrow. Chuck has that ride that meets at Colada at 11. Chuck, have you confirmed they’re open on MLK Day?
There’s also the weekly Lazy Mike’s Monday Morning Pancake Club at the new location on the corner of Shreve and 7 in Falls Church (starting a bit later). After that folks are riding out to Green Lizard in Herndon to see Boomer off and welcome Filipe back.
Judd also mentioned the Met Branch Cleanup effort (now at capacity) going on tomorrow morning. Runs until about 11 which might give some folks time to sneak over to Colada after. More info here: Metropolitan Branch Trail Clean Up on MLK Day

After years of using an old 84 Peugeot as my commuter/workhorse it was recently retired and replaced by a new gravel bike.
Turns out it’s a Renegade Exploit! This team member is A-OK in my book.

ParticipantI’m glad Reji is ok and I hope she ordered the Renegade Escapade as a replacement. I hear Ultegra bikes are crush-proof.

ParticipantYes! I can’t believe I forgot the free coffee and bagels incentive!

ParticipantConte’s in Falls Church does a weekly hill ride Saturday mornings and I’m inviting y’all. Wheels up at 8:30. Brian, the Captain of Team 20, usually leads this shop ride, but we can’t let them have all the “fun,” can we? It’s about 20mi and tomorrow will be cold and windy. What could go wrong? My commuter is a super practical Jamis Commuter II from a few years back. Definitely a workhorse and definitely in need of a little TLC at the moment. This spring I bought a Felt F85x so I could more comfortably go on longer rides (yes, I swapped out the tires). It’s a cool bike but the brakes have been nothing but trouble, so it’s currently out of commission until I can take it in yet again.
If you wind up needing to replace the brakes on the F85X the TRP Spyres are very good as far as mechanical discs go.

ParticipantIt’s your boy Bill here. I used to ride a lot way back in high school, with a huge gap until 2015 when I decided to get a cheap hybrid/fitness bike to putter around with and figure out what sort of riding I wanted to do. I rode it locally and then tried a few commutes from Falls Church to DC in the spring of 2016. It wasn’t a complete disaster, but my wayfinding was poor and it took me a while to learn the trail system. Safetrack happened and I decided to commute more regularly, at least 3 days per week. This got me hooked on cycling (I’m more of a runner) and by the fall of 2016 I had purchased my first “serious” bike. It’s a gravel bike and I’ve been living the “N=1, do everything on the same bike” life. Lately that means trying to keep up with roadies with my heavy treaded tires.
I found out about BAFS too late last year, but crashed some social gatherings and rides anyway, making new bike friends along the way. I plan to ride every day if possible, commuting, running errands, suffering on hills with like-minded folks, riding gravel, doing some long moderately paced rides, joining chill social rides, and undoubtedly sleazing to maintain my streak when necessary.

And yes – I will plug my team’s shop. Bikenetic is FANTASTIC and the wrenches have many a time smacked me upsidethehead and shown me how to adjust a brake or a cable or a headtube. They get sick of me being in the store.
I keep buying pie and they haven’t locked the doors on me yet.
