Team 5 will host happy hour in the basement of Meridian Pint (3400 11th Street NW 20010) this coming Wednesday (1/30). I’ll plan to arrive at 6pm and am told that the bar has a fine selection of taps that will surely keep me entertained until at least 8.
11th Street is a great strip of bars, restaurants, and row houses, and is very cycling-friendly. I think of it as a low-key version of U Street.
This is a great chance to meet the riders behind the team that will be gradually ascending past yours in the rankings.
A few of us from Team 15 would like to join. Does look like it will be frosty on Wed!

ParticipantA few of us went to Cotton & Reed, a rum distillery, after HandlebarDC’s alleys of DC ride for some spiriteuring. We had passed close to Union Market during the tour but didn’t have time to stop there. Boomer the creator of the Spiriteuring prize was kind enough to come with us and partake. I am a sucker for campari and got the Redbeard cocktail which had a bit of ginger. It was very refreshing!

ParticipantJoined up with Team X – Snow Patrol at Port City. Always wanted to go there so it was a good excuse to ride down to that part of town. Tried a few of the new releases and liked the Golden Export lager. The Rauch marzen was interesting too for the smokey flavor. Finished with a Monumental IPA to commemorate this monumental occasion.

A big turnout at Port City tonight! A few other teams were present including Team 18 IceCycles and Team 15 Flurrious. Thanks to Team X Snow Patrol for organizing!

Pastry ride #1 — Killer ESP
Hauling trash out of Belle Haven in the frigid air stirred a hunger that tacos just couldn’t satisfy. Emm put me straight: killer cherry pie on King Street. Not too sweet, and a crust even Dad could respect.

They also have killer espresso and other coffee drinks the next time you are there!

ParticipantStopped by Right Proper Brewery in Shaw. Apparently they brew everything at the Shaw location except the Haxan. Decided to go with a road theme and got the lookaftering (a biere de garde), zebra crossing (a belgian wheat), and motorik (a sour). Liked the Motorik which was nice and tart.

ParticipantI did the Arlington loop today. Everything was clear along the Custis, W&OD, and Four Mile Run. Mt Vernon was clear except on the two bridges by National Airport and the two bridges by Roosevelt Island. Maybe the mild temperature and rain will wash the remainder before the artic chill. Great job everyone clearing the trail earlier!

ParticipantI believe obscurerichard and Josh’s teammate also commute out to Reston. Potentially 4 Freezing Saddlers filling up a rail car!

ParticipantTrail conditions on the W&OD between Old Reston Parkway and The Bike Lane. A little crusty in some spots particularly around the American Plaza Way underpass otherwise ridable.

ParticipantStopped by The Bike Lane on the way home. Was originally going to get a coffee but ran into Josh and found out that The Bike Lane brew their own beer so switched liquid delivery format. Went with a bike theme and got the Chamois Cream Ale. It wasn’t as creamy as a Boddington or Genesee but not bad.
Was most impressed with Josh double fisting a beer and a coffee at the same time. That’s one way to knock off beerneuring and coffeeneuring at the same time! If he poured the coffee into his beer would that have made it a coffee porter? They also had pastries so he could have gone for a triple crown. Maybe at the next brewery…
