ParticipantThank you to Hops N Shine for being a sponsor and setting up a clothing drive for Cranksgiving. Drop off a donation next week for half off an appetizer and a great selection of brews to go along!

ParticipantA reminder that the Fall Foliage ride is on Sun. Should be a good weekend to enjoy the foliage!
Also the Bike + Brews on Sat. If anyone would like to try some non-alcoholic brews, we will have some from Athletic Brewing Company!

ParticipantDid a recount! I’m missing a few other folks from the Great Dumpling Extravangza but I don’t it will change the podium. Me thinks next year maybe I should switch to the beerneuring method of posting photos or Boomer’s arbitrary point system!

ParticipantCongrats to everyone that participated in the pastry ride!
First prize goes to Chris/consular rider for a dominating performance in the German countryside!
Our runner up and North American champ goes to Sam/secstate who found some killer pies in Alexandria.
On the heels, or should I say wheels, of Sam were Elizabeth and Robin B who had the most pastries/mile!
I hope you all had fun and enjoyed some pastry!

ParticipantCongrats to everyone that participated in the dumpling ride! I hope you had fun exploring and enjoyed some dumplings.
Our winner for the inaugural dumpling ride pointless prize goes to Jo M who came from behind to win against Komorebi and LSG! Please tell us your secrets.
Honorable mentions to:
– runner up LSG for being the most adventurous rider braving some “swamp” dumplings.
– Komorebi for biking all the way to Rockville, braving several lanes of traffic on 355. And for organizing the great dumpling ride where we all got to enjoy dim sum twice on one ride!
– ltierstein. I’m not sure if you did ended up hitting 6 places in one ride but that would likely be a record for the most dumplings/ride!
– Adriana for getting on the scoreboard in the last week. It’s never too late for some tasty dumplings!

ParticipantSaw this article the other day about Red Bear Brewery in case you’d like to know what you’re having! Pretty cool that one of the beers is a nod to the Beatles.

Bikedavid has very kindly loaned me his folding bike for a short trip to North Carolina. I rode it to Union Station this morning and treated myself to an almond croissant from Pret a Manger.
It was my first time on such a machine. Even though I had a heavy duffel on my back it rode very well. I also felt more comfortable riding short sidewalk stretches than I would on a full-size bike.
Thanks for keeping me on the board for Team 5 this week, David!

You’re welcome. Nice balancing act there with a croissant on a bike!

ParticipantStopped by Red Bear Brewing. It was packed for the opening weekend. Got the Polar Bear (wheat pale ale), Marmalade Skies (Witbier), Mystic Storm (IPA), and Cupid’s Black Heart (Chocolate and Strawberry Bock). Particularly liked Marmalade Skies which was a bit like an Allagash White and Mystic Storm which was a like a DIPA.

ParticipantAlso attempted some wineuring earlier in the week at Cooper’s Hawk in Reston. Was hoping it would be like Gordon Biersch where they make some things in house but alas everything is made in Chicago so it doesn’t count. Did enjoy the tasting though particularly since it included a chocolate covered strawberry for the dessert wine. A fun stop if you happen to be in the area.

ParticipantMade it to District Winery with Flurrious teammate Laurie. They don’t grow any grapes there since there’s not a lot of space in Navy Yard. Instead they bring in the grapes from various growers and blend them there. Got the Muscat from California. It was nice and bright, easy to drink. Paired well with the green eggs and ham!

ParticipantMade my way to Maryland Meadworks since I was riding along the Anacostia river trail today. Got a flight consisting of the Gwen, Tart Gwen, and Dragon Breath. Particularly liked the easy drinking Gwen and the little habenero kick with the Dragon Breath. Also met Rumi who happened to be there! I think she approved…

ParticipantBeerneuring while in Banff! Actually in the neighboring town of Canmore. Went to Grizzly Paw Brewing and tried out a flight consisting of the Evolution IPA, Uberwintern Munich Dunkel, Grumpy Bear Honey wheat, and Three Sisters Pale Ale since I figured I should get something named after one of the surrounding mountain ranges. The bartender also suggested the Blue Cow Milk Stout so I had that as well. All were solid. Particularly enjoyed the caramely Dunkel and the smooth Milk Stout. The unfiltered Evolution IPA was also quite flavorful without being too hoppy like many Western IPA’s. Instead of thumbs up, paws up!

This weekend, provided weather is decent, a non-Freezing-Saddles friend and I plan to visit 6 of the places listed in this article: https://www.zagat.com/b/8-must-try-asian-dumplings-in-dc
Do I need six different rides to get six points toward the pointless prize #FS2019dumplingride? Would it count if the distance between two of the dumpling places is less than a mile?Wow 6–that will be a record! You can tag as one ride and either add something in the description or better yet post some photos here for the rest of us to drool over as well as making it easier to track. Didn’t specify any minimum distance so as long you ride to each of the places you are good!
