ParticipantHere’s my two cents. The law says cyclists in crosswalks are the same as pedestrians. A pedestrian crossing a crosswalk with a green walk signal has the right of way. There is no way in hell you are at fault – and if there’s some weird quirk or weird interpretation of the law that says you are, that is the problem and should be fixed.

It’s actually about Freezing Saddles isn’t it? Because EVERYTHING is about freezing saddles from DEC-MAR. I’m surprised people are even monitoring the General Discussion tab of the forum right now.
No really – Congrats! Sounds awesome! Always looking for new books.
If I had thought of it I would have slipped in a Freezing Saddles reference. I’m not above that.

ParticipantYes, it will be available on Amazon and at bookstores and all that. And yes, there will be events. Best thing to keep up with all that is to send a message to my author email at rickhodgesauthor@gmail.com. I’ll make sure to sign your copy one way or the other.

Now write one about bikes.
I’ll get to work on it. Until then, this is by a favorite author of mine:

If you put the chemical hand warmers in a plastic bag when you’re done riding, the chemical reaction stops (no air), and you can start them again the next time you need them. I’ve had a pair last weeks. I’ve even pulled out last-year’s bag, found it still had hot-hands in it, and was able to use them (presumably about 10 months later). I just use one zip-lock bag all winter.
Cool idea. Also, store them long-term in a bag as well because they can leak and lose effectiveness.

Can you tell me more about this? I have been trying to figure out a way to have a garage door opener mounted on my bike in a fashion that it would be weather proof. Having to stop and use the keypad is kind of a pain, especially when it is raining.
Maybe a weatherproof cellphone case with bike mount would work?

The pedestrian bridge that will cross over Wash blvd in Falls Church may route the trail through Isaac Crossman park but I’ve been told by walkers no bicycles are allowed.
discuss. As for bikes being allowed, seems to me that unless there’s a sign saying so, they are allowed. Anyone else know if I’m right or wrong?

ParticipantSpeaking of Gravelly Point, it seems the Park Service finally, after however many decades, figured out that it shouldn’t face portapotties set right on the trail with their doors opening onto the trail.
No maybe they can build permanent bathrooms instead.

ParticipantThe revenue thing is a (typical) red herring. If a camera or ticketing helps safety in a given situation, good. If it doesn’t, okay, put it where it will. But if the camera or tickets happen to make money in the process, that’s fine with me. It’s a tax on scofflaws.

ParticipantSaw this on the SquirrelArlington site:
“Whenever you cross a street, it’s a good idea to go almost to the other side and then, if a car or bike approaches, turn around and run right back in front of the vehicle to where you came from.”

There is a good video on the changes here.
In Phase 1, some cyclists and pedestrians will cross on the near side, at the dirt trail. That’s dangerous. The rest will cross properly at the already dangerous crossing where cars are coming off the bridge too fast and taking the blind turn just before the crossing. That’s dangerous. So, in conclusion…dangerous.

So nobody should ever cross a street again.

My thought is that it’s a problem with the GPS — or the Android location service that abstracts the phone’s GPS to the applications. To rule that out, I would recommend also recording your ride on another similar recording software. If the other software records the correct route and Strava doesn’t, then it sounds like there’s something about Strava — or about how your phone is trying to throttle’s Strava’s usage of location services or something. Anyway, should be easy to identify whether it’s a phone/OS issue or app issue.
My thoughts too – a GPS issue.
Here’s Strava’s help:
