“Slow the —- down!”
I’d take this a step further. I’d say “Slow the f***, down, motherf***ers!” with a photo of a scowling Samuel L. Jackson.

ParticipantWednesday: I was stopped at an intersection on Wilson Blvd. You were salmoning up the street to my right. Just before my light turned green, you turned in front of me and proceeded to salmon between the two lanes of traffic as it began to go through the light.
Just wanted to check to see if you’re still alive.

ParticipantI always slow WAY down when there’s a kid. They dart and weave.

This morning I was southbound on 14th NW around L St. I was in the middle lane (for whatever weirdness of light timing, there’s not much traffic on that block if you get off the green leaving the circle quickly). There was a bus in front of my trying to get to the right, half in my lane, half in the right lane.
Just as I started to move left, staying in my lane, to pass him, some guy all decked out in cycling gear, nice bike, definitely serious, passes me on the left without a word. If I hadn’t heard noise from his bike, I probably would have cut him off and sent both of us down.
I shouldn’t have to check behind me when I’m staying in the lane, right? He should have called his pass? Or is there some unwritten rule I’m not aware of?
This drivers me crazy. When I first got into cycling, calling your pass was the rule, not the exception. I don’t expect it all the time, but in any situation that could get at all dangerous, people should do it.

I just filled out the form to volunteer as a course marshall. It will be a terrific day. Thanks for alerting me to this.

Good idea – they do need volunteers, including people to drive VIPs around in Audis all day, and then to the free after-ride concert/party. If I weren’t riding, that’s what I’d do.

ooofff, Just read what you meant about raiseing $1,000. Guess I’m not signing up.
Good, that means you can give to me instead.

Don’t worry, Ann, as soon as I’ve set up the online contributions and all that, you can be sure that I’ll hit up my generous good friends here!
They’re doing a few training rides in the area. I rode one yesterday. There were a couple of newbies who were just starting out with cycling, and a 14-year-old kid who has been heavily involved in Best Buddies at his school. The best part was a guy who seemed to have autism who rode with another group. He had numbers left over from his last group ride. He could barely talk, but he was a good rider. A nice group to see overall.

Honestly, I think modern clipless pedals are much easier to use. I am assuming, of course, that the cleats and pedals are clean, well-maintained, etc.
No comparison to when road shoes had wooden soles, cleats that fit over the lip at the trailing edge of the pedal, and you had to cinch down the strap to keep your foot locked in. Now those were a lot more interesting to get out of in a hurry.Actually, I use these as a compromise:
They work with any shoe too.

ParticipantPlus if a thief really really wants your bike, he’ll just go get an axe or a saw (which he also probably stole).

The other time was in Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the eastern shore with my wife. We stopped to wait for a car to clear a high-tide flooded section of road and I just leaned the wrong way. The driver gave me a nice thumbs up as he passed. It was pretty funny.
Did this with the wife years ago. Nice ride.

Yep, but less weird when you think back to these being the standard road pedals:
Nah, kid, that was years after the REAL standard:
See, no clips.

That was the one in Shirlington, no?
Yeah, with another shop on Capitol Hill. The actual reason it closed was the owner died.
