I wonder how much this ()#&$*(#&$ cost me in taxes. Which of course, none of them need to worry about since none of them go to work and pay taxes.
You have no idea if they work or not.
Considering that Warren Buffett recently pointed out that his secretary is taxed at a higher rate than he is, maybe you should stop and think about the issues they’re trying to get you to think about though.

This latest from dcist:
“…Occupy DC’s media team states that their march will not conflict with the afternoon rush, despite it being scheduled to last until 6 p.m. Meanwhile, a group called Our DC which is participating in a demonstration on the bridge itself says that protesters will be “staying on the pedestrian sidewalk” and that there will be “No blocking traffic!”…”
You can bet traffic will be alot slower regardless.

Huh? You are kidding I hope. :p
Nope. Google maps just isn’t the same. It’s still got more errors, both cartographic and technology-related, than a paper map. I see errors all the time. Small, but significant, especially for a cyclist.
Mapmakers can’t just copy others – that’s a copyright violation, and they actually put a few little mistakes on their maps on purpose to catch violators. They have to go get the data from scratch. So older mapmakers using their own older maps usually have better ones.
Some funny results of mistakes on Google maps:
Nicaraugan troops once mistakenly invaded Costa Rica because they used Google maps: http://www.newser.com/story/104797/google-map-mistake-triggers-invasion.html
Thousands of tourists flock to someone’s driveway: http://phandroid.com/2011/07/12/google-maps-mistake-brings-hordes-of-vacationers-to-new-jersey-womans-home/
P.S. I just found this interesting document – a list of Google Maps errors in Arlington, from our own map people. It’s 3 years old though, so probably many have been corrected.

ParticipantI see hazardous dullards out on bikes every day on the trail.
Oh, wait, bollards.

For some reason, your post makes me sympathetic with the protesters.
Me too.

Hmm. I thought paper maps were extinct with the advent of Google? I seriously haven’t opened a paper map since…. wow… I think the late 90’s.
Paper maps are more accurate, and you can spread them out to get the big picture (literally).

I you bought the bike new from a bike shop, just take it back for a tune up. My understanding is that new cable stretch or something so that adjustment is normal. Besides, it’s always fun to go to bike shops.
Yeah, that was about to be my comment. The cables will stretch. It’s the rear brake, isn’t it? Longer cable = more stretch.

I wonder if you could get interest by offering a course in/near large apartment buildings that are near CaBi stations, or in dense areas with CaBi stations. Sell it as an intro to making CaBi useful. Include a helmet in the price of the class.
Good idea.

ParticipantAm at work wishing I could be there, like probably 99% of people who would have come if it were on a weekend.

ParticipantNot quite a ninja story, but I once encountered two joggers, both with headphones, at night, running in the bike lane on Fairfax Drive.
Love the term “Crazy Ivan!” It’s why I always give pass warnings. I see it in non-jogging pedestrians too, and even cyclists.

In other words, work the phrase “Beer and Bikes” into the title and attendance will soar.
Okay, solution found!

ParticipantIdea: Call it a “forum” or “summit” or whatever and pretend like you’re asking for cyclists’ opinions, then sneak the education on them. Only way to get an opinionated, egotistical bunch like us to listen.

ParticipantGood idea, and it’s an easier way to accomplish my idea of narrowing that section to one lane, since part of it already is one lane.

ParticipantYeah, I saw on TheWashCycle that it was a pedestrian. Looks like the classic case of one lane stopping but not the other.
I still cross there, but only when there is a very large gap in traffic. I won’t go in front of stopped cars there. And I take a different route home.
