ParticipantThis thread takes me back to a campaign speech by Loudoun County Supervisor Sharon Volpe last summer, when she expressed skepticism that bicycle tourism helps businesses in the County.

What a dolt she is.

ParticipantInteresting fact – a tour group offers bike rental/tours from National Harbor.

Today, while riding the Mt. Vernon, I called left while passing a pedestrian and they apparently were so startled (don’t people call to pass around here?) that they jumped to the left
LOL. I see that so many times.
The answer is that cyclists don’t call their passes half as often as they used to around here. This is what we get for that.
(Welcome btw).

I saw it the second I hit the “post” button and noticed the irony at once. Therein lies the ugliness and beauty of electronic transmission.
Glad your sense of humor wasn’t damaged.
How’s it going now?

I think the intersection in question is a block north of that google link. It’s at Lynn and westbound Lee Highway where the Custis crosses Lynn St. At least that’s where I see the most issues.
Yes:
BTW, turn left on Lee there and go about 20 yards and suddenly it’s winter.

ParticipantSorry to hear that, and I hope you feel better and get justice too.
Is it too early to note the irony of your misspelled thread headline?

For a commute, skip the convoluted path through Arlington and just take Stafford of Quincy across I-66 to the Custis Trail, stay on that (being very careful though the Ft Myer/Lynn/Lee intersections area), continue on the Mt Vernon Trail and the route in post #1.
You’re trying to avoid me, aren’t you? It’s okay, I’m used to it.

ParticipantWelcome, Edward.
There are many routes to the Mt. V. My preferred route is below. I like to avoid traffic and hills and potholes.
Fairfax Drive to the end, stop for coffee at Northside Social if you have time, take sidewalk on the North side of Wilson one black to left on Hudson, right on 13th, left on Highland (you can just take Wilson or the sidewalk to Highland for simplicity), right on Key Blvd., left on Veitch, cross Lee Highway to take a right on the sidewalk, which connects to the Custis Trail, through the Crossing of Doom at Lynn St. (I only cross on the green walk signal for extra safety) to the Mt. V.
Fairfax to Wilson to a left on Veitch or Lynn works fine too. Or simply catch the Custis Trail from Ballston.
