The whole idea of riding in the winter started for me when I joined Freezing Saddles for the first time two years ago. But getting out when its cold is still hard and I’m more likely to do it if I participate in FS. I now have a job I can ride to and I’ll be more likely to ride than drive because it puts points on the board.

My heart was breaking so I signed up again. I’ll be on my bike as soon as I can, hopefully by mid January.

If I had been on a team like that I might feel the same way. How would you feel if your team never got together as a group and you never even met all the people on your team? Both my teams have been like that.

I’m surprised that the high milage folks are so upset about the cap on TEAM points. Isn’t the individual competition enough for them?

My preference in order is 2, 3, 5, 1 but I would attend once or twice at any location. Thank you!

I want something I can wear on my wrists as well as ankles. Last year’s ankle bands were too big to wear on my wrists (they are great, however, for stabilizing my front wheel when I hang my bike on the wall). My vote is slap bands with LEDs. Whatever you go with, I think they should be PINK!

I’m a pretty competitive person but I’m not a great athlete and don’t have unlimited amounts of time to ride. I want to contribute to my team as much as possible but I don’t plan to try to win the individual competition. Of course I want a point system that is most beneficial for riders like me. I vote for keeping the cap at 100 and adding the declining points system. 100 miles a week was a stretch for me so it encouraged me to ride more. 150 is well out my range so it wouldn’t serve as a goal for me and I might ride less. A little data analysis might help set a cap that works for the most people. Does anyone know what the average miles per week across all players and weeks was last year (with cap) and the year before (no cap)?

I’m interested in helping with the tech part of FS. I’m a web developer but I don’t know Python (I do ColdFusion/Oracle). I like the idea of a training meeting to get started. I wanted to help in the previous two years but was intimidated by facing the learning curve from a blind start. My ColdFusion career is coming to an end and I’m eager to learn some new skills.

    My $0.02.

I think Steve O and Chuxtr are right that there isn’t a way to create teams in December and have close results at the end. Here are some alternatives.

    1. Do away with having an overall team winner and go with categories: most days, most miles, most trips, most group rides (with different minimum numbers of team members), etc.

    2. Do a two-stage season. In the first half the teams are location based to promote team activities and establish everyone’s riding habits. In the second half the teams are recreated based on the data from the first half.

The OP had this information “The date for the closing happy hour and pointless prize ceremony is Wednesday, March 27. Please mark your calendars.”
